Internet sarcasm fail-- dude had hands, just wasn't using them. He was showing off to his bro friend. You see, it's funny because, if he was squatting without hands with freeweights, it would have been impressive, but he was squatting without hands in a smith machine, so...

There was a dude at my gym who only had one arm who worked out a lot. He was unracking a machine(ours are the kind where you use plates) and I asked him if he needed a hand and he just glared at me. Haven't seen him since.

That's what I figured, but wasn't sure. If he didn't have hands, I thought you might have adopted that attitude that a lot of people get (which I think most disabled folks hate) where they're all "hey, that thing you just did was pretty ordinary and lame, but it was so cool and inspirational the way you did it. You rock, bro!"

A buck fifty soaking wet guy eating chicken and brown rice on the stair climber. That was all he did the entire ninety minutes i was in gym, and he'd obviously been at it a while when i got in

Being a poker nerd I actually rely on working out to give me calluses because I think men should have them.

I am drunk so I do not remember what I was going to say about this.

Not shockingly I remember that all this talk about plates makes me hungry....which also makes me want another bloody mary.

This needs clarification. Was the chicken fried, baked...other? Please say fried.

Eating chicken for 90 mins is pretty damn badass.

I always wear gloves when lifting something, my hands just get super sweaty. Not like there's a downside to wearing them

With DLs etc. it can cause issues with grip, though (makes bar effectively "thicker" when wearing gloves).

A thicker bar in dead lift will give you meatier grip strength. Yah you won't pull the same weight, but if you work back up to the same weight, you'll have developed Hulk Hands.

Some people have jobs where people actually look at callused hands with disdain. Yes said people are worse than stupid but there's a reason that even straight men get manicures besides the Veitnamese girl doing it.

cross posted from my log:

Quote:
I get to my indoor track today and go to the corner to start stretching. As I get there, another guy gets there a few seconds after me and goes to an opposite corner to stretch. As I'm stretching I realize that theres one guy already running on the track and he is running on the inside lane the wrong direction(there is a sign that instructs us to run clockwise on Mon/Wed/Fri/Sun and counter-clockwise on Tue/Thur/Sat). It also looked as if he might be done soon(he was breathing heavy and moving slowly), and I time myself so if I start to run in the wrong direction and he stops running then I am going to continue to run in the wrong direction for the rest of my run. Whats your move?

1. Stop the guy in the middle of his run to tell him

2. Run the correct way, deal with the awkwardness of the first time you run into each other and have to dodge, and hope he realizes that hes going the wrong way and changes

3. Run the way hes running, hope that he runs as long as you do so that he doesn't leave you as the lone person running the wrong way, also hope that the other person stretching joins in and runs the wrong way

4. Wait for the person stretching to start running and do what he does.

Results:

Spoiler:
I was going to do #3, but the guy stretching didn't stretch for too long so I did #4. The guy stretching ran the wrong way and by the time I finished there was 5 or 6 people all running the wrong way.

#2, move to the 2nd lane when you're about to cross eachother and start pointing to the right direction when he sees you

why does it switch direction on some days anyway?

Because it isn't NASCAR and they want to be able to turn in both directions, Obviously.

Gotta make sure those leg muscles develop evenly. If you only run one direction on a track, then that outside leg will become stronger.

I almost fall over when I try to run the opposite way. I imagine any past track athlete feels the same way. To avoid that awful feeling I just do sprints to avoid all turns. Plus, **** cardio.

If it's a really short track with lots of time spent on the curves, there's some truth to this though, right?

kinda surprised that all 4 people who replied in either my log or the GGO thread said option #2. My thought process at the time was that I really don't care about anything except improving my mile time. Option #2 will take a second or two off my time from having to avoid him, and its possible that he'll actually stop to ask me if hes going the wrong way. I was even scared of option #3 because I thought the guy stretching might try to stop us and tell us we were going the wrong way.

Unless there is a legitimate or good reason that directions switch every other day, you should just go with the flow of traffic that has already been established by the first guy.

and yea, i have absolutely no clue why they switch directions each day. Tbh I kinda like it though- it doesn't matter a ton when I only run 1 mile, but its an 1/8 mile track so when I ran 5 miles a few weeks ago that meant 40 laps on a short track that has a lot more turns and a lot less straight-aways than a normal track....it could've just been in my head, but I definitely noticed my left hip was much more sore than my right hip(I was running counter-clockwise that day, so left hip was inside hip)

Oh, didn't know you were actually trying to run fast. That changes things. If I'm on the track at all it's to warm up so I'd rather stand my ground/make a point. THIS IS A SOCIETY, WE HAVE RULES.

Go find the nearest lady with pointy shoes, or dude with steel toed shoes, and ask them to kick you in the nuts for punishment of the boldes section.

I was scared of the possibility that it would result in something that could harm my mile run time, failing to better my last time is something that I can't let happen. I thought I made that clear when I said "My thought process at the time was that I really don't care about anything except improving my mile time."
