Yea the other day I saw a kid box squatting except he never came within like 2 inches of the box. Probably would have been about 1/2 depth if he did. I dunno sometimes...

Maybe it's like a safety bench, so if he fails he can rest up and rack.

I've actually done something like this as a means of judging my depth...put a box at the height I'd like to descend to, find myself unable to touch it, go home irritated with myself, lather, rinse, repeat. Box was at parallel height at least.

Today some dude was squatting really loud every rep just above parallel. He worked his way up to four plates (belt), but before he attempted 405 he took a washroom break. I was deadlifting behind and to the side of the cage. When I see four plates just sitting there I'm thinking to myself, "what a douchebag, he didn't even remove the weights." Just then another bro comes in and starts removing the plates down to one for his squats. Original dude then rushes back in all pissed off saying he was still using that and took a washroom break.

Probably not the right thread, but since that video was posted... kind of a newbie, is that what you guys refer to as rounding your back? I used to deadlift like that and was able to lift much more weight. Now, I keep my back straight which sort of requires me to use my legs much more, resulting in not as good of a workout for my lower back. Am I off base here?

Keep the trolling to monthly lc threads. GGO is srs bizness

It's a far better workout for your lower back if you keep it straight, because it reduces the risk of injuring it!

In case serious: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinal_disc_herniation

Although after continental cleans and instructions for rounded-back goodmornings, I don't even know anymore.

Spitting in the drain part of the drinking fountain = GROSS DUDE, JUST....NO.

This coming from someone who has been pretty desensitized from the internet, and not even really affected by 2g1c or its derivations.

idk what continental cleans are, but I assume they're something that loads your back while its rounded. Rounded back GMs are risky. Any loading of the low back while its rounded greatly increases the risk of a herniated disc, which is something no one wants.

My gym's bench stations have a cutout where the neck should be. I don't see any functional reason for having this at all, and it probably increases production costs.

I am fairly sure Continental cleans are simply cleans where you get the bar to the shoulders by any means possible, usually by resting on the thighs and such. I don't think it necessarily means loading the back whilst rounded.

continental cleans generally result in a lot of over extension of the lumbar spine during the hip-to-shoulder portion.

Used often in strongman comps, as the bar/axle is too thick for traditional grip (mixed grip is used from ground to midsection), grip then changes to allow for a press/push press.

Watch World's Strongest Man axle clean & press (with the metal gold wheels), think they use 300-315# for the competition.

Derek Poundstone 400# axle clean & press (push)
