My friend lives in williamsburg with all the cool kids. We were at some bar called hot bird. I think it's in crown heights or something. Somewhere around there.

Cool, I have friends in park slope, I grew up in Bay Ridge which is also pretty close to crown heights. Next time your around there check out Beer Table, it is close to park slope but it is well worth the trip.

Quaint, small place with a super exclusive tap/bottle list updated daily.

And obviously good food pairings that usually involve daily bacon, and cheese dishes.

They also usually have a cask of something available.

Oh yea, bring $200.

the second article isnt that bad. pretty much the entire second half of the piece is "correlation does not equal causation" and multiple sentences that say diet soda neither increases nor decreases weight on its own.

It's one thing if you read and believe that and decide it's a good reason to drink water or seltzer or whatever. If you use it as justification to drink regular soda, that's ****ing ******ed.

yeah confirmed. he used to be an avid diet coke drinker, now he drinks coke. He doesn't drink much soda anyway (maybe a can a day, if that), so it's no biggie for him, but it's lol.

Ok even if the premise that diet soft drinks can cause weight gain (vs drinking water), how does he then conclude that drinking sugarific coke is better?

cuz he's dumb. i dunno. I shut up promptly because I didn't feel like arguing with someone who's put 1/10000th of the time I have into learning about strength, conditioning, and nutrition. It also doesn't help I'm a tubby bitch.

My anecdotal view on diet whatever:

I've noticed that if I drink a diet soda or put artificial sweetener in my coffee I tend to get a really bad craving for real sugary crap a short while after. If that's somewhat common I can see it causing weight gain in people who end up binging on more stuff later than what they would have eaten in the first place if they avoided the artificial sweetener.

Had an epic, self-owning, brain fart moment today. As I was removing the smaller weights from the bench, an old lady - probably in her early 50s - asks if I'm done. I say yeah go ahead and LEAVE ONE PLATE on each side. What's worse is I ask if that's fine (that being the plates). She says heavens no and asks if I could remove the weights.

Haven't felt that stupid since high school physics class when the teacher asked if light in dim lit room increases as time goes on.

I think everyone here has this problem...

We're all like: "lulz, lifting weights is so much better for losing weight" but we're all fatties while the skinnies are running on treadmills all day.

We're all like: "lulz some personal trainer has a hyoog ript upper body, but tiny legs and was doing curlz" ...but we've all go no uper body muscle.

No one cares what you say unless you look the part.

/just sayin'

i'm on my way, but last 2 weeks have been a plateau / slight reversal due in part to laziness, but also due to the holiday. Weekend in nyc meant a lot of food and booze, and today is one of the best eating days of the year. Our neighbor is good with the grill. Pretty epic marinated pork chops, steaks, chicken wings, and finished it up with some sardines (big ones on the grill). Plus potato salad, some chourico and bread concoction, lots of beer, and malasadas for desert. So stuffed.

And in 2 weeks I'm in cali and seattle, so that's another plateau coming. Realistically, I won't be "lean" until Thanksgiving or so.

@kc - Yeah, but that is the problem (almost) everyone (me included obv) on here has, life and other things keep getting the way of goals.

I wanna be hyoog and strong, but I get injured, I go on holidays, I do a lot of non-strength focused work.

You could go through all the regs logs here and everyone is in the same boat, they make progress for a bit, then drop off for whatever reason, then make progress for a bit, but in the end no one is getting really close to their goals.

I dunno, maybe I'm just being a bit emo.

I lost 100 lbs in the last couple years while drinking a metric buttload of diet soda a day, fwiw. Should I be drinking more water instead? Yeah, probably, but it's not something I'm willing to give up right now, and it pleases me to drink it. Plus I literally can't drink regular stuff any more. It just tastes almost too sickeningly sweet, and I can eat a whole pan of baklava in a sitting if you let me.

Correct play is to say "what, can't bench 135 you weak-azz old bitch?" and walk away laughing at her.

And everyone knows that the dim light collects at the bottom of the room...turn on a fan or something to make it circulate around and brighten things up.

Progress takes time, just being a bit short-sighted I think. Things always get tough when the initial momentum wears off, but if you're really putting in the effort, nutrition and workout wise then the results will come, not as fast as we'd like probably, but for the most part we're impatient bastards.
