Me: Excuse me, would you mind putting your phone down?
GOP: What?
Me: Would you mind putting your phone away?
GOP: WHY?!
Me: It's annoying, and you're not really supposed to be on the phone in the gym.
GOP: Since when?!
Me: Look, I can't make you put your phone down, but I would appreciate it.
GOP: Well... (obviously considering telling me off) I'll put it away in a few minutes.

She then changed course to whispering into the phone, which I thought was pretty lol.

I wasn't out of line with this, right?
Meh, even though it's pointless to go to the gym if you're going to be on the phone the whole time, I would pretty much never confront her like this. Idiots gonna idiot, and I tend to let them do it unless it affects me somehow (more than just being "annoying"). Just get your own headphones and then you don't even have to hear her.

i think it's clearly out of line.

Fwiw, I am normally very hesitant to confront people like that and I wouldn't have done it if the gym was larger or she was talking more quietly. I could hear every word she was saying and it was tilting the **** out of me.

i can be a huge a-hole(almost never unprovoked though) and even i wouldn't try to tell someone they can't talk on their phone. i might ask them to keep it down a bit if they were being really loud. i've always been annoyed by anyone who thinks a gym is a library(ie planet fatness and other p***y type people who cringe when someone is actually working hard). if it's against gym rules i can see pointing it out to them, but if not, oh well some people are just annoying, unfortunately it's not a crime.

Haha. I don't know, man... I could be convinced (which is why I posted), but I don't really see how it's out of line to ask someone to stop being rude. Like I said, if this was a big gym I would have just ignored it and/or got further away from her, but this is a really small 1 room gym - I was working out like 10ft from her and it was driving me crazy.

It is also against the gym rules but nobody "works" at this gym, so meh.

Just got home from gym, it was me and a mate training, when 2 18 year old's come and turned the volume up on all the tv's (mtv playing) too 100%. This was deafening and off putting, I was gonna go turn it back down, but didn't want a confrontation, so just left, should I have said something?

yeah just politely ask them to turn it down (i'm sure someone confrontational will come up with various more macho lines)

Saw my first barbell go overboard today when a guy unloaded one side all at once, that was fun.

Haha, after reading these two posts I realize I missed out on the expert play... I definitely should have turned the TV on and cranked the volume so high that she couldn't hear the person talking to her on the phone. Oh well.

hopefully ISF can chime in here, but i'm pretty sure he would have killed them for a lesser offense

Haven't had this one before....

Getting ready to do AMRAP set on bench, ask a younger kid, like 18/19ish to give me a spot and agrees. I get set up and he's just standing there at like 3 o'clock looking at me. I wait. He just is standing like a 4 feet away from me off the right. Finally, after a minute, I'm like, "um...you can get behind me if you want?" He's like, "oh okay!"

Me: I'm going to do as many as I can get...I'm expecting about 10. I'll let you know if I need help.

Him: Gotcha. Do you want me to do a one hand spot or a 2 hand spot?

Me: Uh....it doesn't matter. (no longer planning to do AMRAP)

lol...I hate that ****. I asked for a spot one time from this kinda weird looking dude (like 55 yrs old with short hair, spandex tank top on, huge fever blister on his lip)...he was like sure all nervous like then of course assisted each rep after I asked him not to. :/

Yeah he definitely placed his (one!) hand all the way on the bar on the 12th rep, mid lockout. Which sucked b/c I'm 100% sure I had it and it would have been a +2 rep record for the weight.

lol just noticed the part about the huge fever blister...so gross. I would have probably assumed that was herpes and faked an injury.

Yeah I didn't notice the blister til after I asked him. lol maybe I coulda acted like a twisted my ankle sitting down. But yeah, I think most fever blisters are the herpsssss.
