Re: General Gym Observations

surfin,

good post! the trainers at the 24hr i go to are in pretty good shape, and there is a group of people that use the two power racks with me to do various compound lifts in the evenings. we usually work in between sets and make fun of meatheads who are on the curl machines.

the difference between the people who use free weights and the people that use circuit training equipment is awesome. same goes for the people who use steppers and the people that run on treadmills.

Yeah all the trainers at my gym with the exception of 3 (out of maybe 15) are completely out of shape. Like not even one of those big-muscles-but-still-fat guys. Unreal that anybody would pay them any amount of money.

Oh one more:

The percentage of a true, full squat (knees and hips parallel) you do is inversely proportional to the amount of time you spend staring at the mirror.

Re: General Gym Observations

Half the people in the my gym seem to have ADD, they go from the elliptical, to curls, to using 6 different machines, to abs and then back on the treadmill all in like 20 minutes. What's up with this? Most of the people are not on some type of program either, it's just random exercise.

There are always 1-2 guys I see doing some type of curls all the time. Curls in the squat rack, curls with dumbbells, curls sitting down, curls he just invented. I never have seen these people do one other exercise in the 1-2 months I've been at this gym. Makes you wonder why they pay for the membership.

I'm a noob at the whole exercise thing but if a sentence begins with "You should try those this way..." it's usually just an annoyance and not good advice.

and really how is it possible that you have never seen a hot chick? do you go at like 3am? go on a saturday at like 10am and there will be tons of chicks on the ellipticals...i lift at a 24hr fitness fwiw...
I go anywhere from 5pm to 10pm at my local YMCA - the main reasons no hot chicks probably because it's mostly inner-city families/kids, all the colleges around here have decent gyms of their own, and membership has dropped dramatically since they jacked up the price and the PlanetFitness near it is only $10/month. A couple of the trainers are hot but only see them during spinning

Re: General Gym Observations

Old dudes are grumpy and don't like to let you work in.

There are never enough bench presses. I think there is a law that says no gym can ever have more than three. Compounded by the fact that people like to do ab-raises, butterflies, and all kinds of ridiculous crap on them that you could do in 20 other, less popular places.

There will always be just as many 120 lb. and 2.5 lb dumbbells--as 35 lb. dumbbells.

Some people seem to think it's acceptable to do all their personal grooming, including nose-hair trimming, at the locker room sink.

Gym water fountains never work well.

Re: General Gym Observations

Could be some sample bias there in that only the low-hanging dudes like to show them off.

Re: General Gym Observations

The 24 hour fitness I go to has a man booby trainer and I don't get it either.

Usually the most in shape chicks do lunges.

LOL at fat chicks leaning on the stair master barely moving an inch at a time.

Genes are better than working out from my observation. (edit - my point is some chicks work out all the time and they still suck, it's either diet or genes)

Dudes wearing dated **** get me, like short shorts or funky tank tops, I even see dark socks and tennis shoes, WTF?

I love the round fat guy who is in the gym for the first and last time doing crunches as fast as humanly possible.

I never work in with someone, there is always another machine or excercise that is why I hate the way some a holes barge in and demand to work in.

I hate loud annoying grunting while working out. Also people who don't wipe up sweat and people who freaking STANK!!!!

I hate when the same treadmills are always wackd out and stop going at certain speeds.

I hate that there are too few dumb bells (how much could a few extra cost?)

I hate having to carry my membership card, why can't I just swipe a finger print somewhere?

Working out is the best hobby in the whole world!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2nd is poker.

In most cases it should be fairly easy to let someone work in. Exceptions being if your rest periods are much shorter or if the setup time for each person is too long. Also, if you're using machines what's the big effing deal? Just move plates on and off, not very difficult.

Its no big deal to let someone work in and I always do, its just that I never ask. I always go around 10 - 12 so its not real crowded and their is usually no need to work in like there is at more crowded times.
