WTF?

That's definitely top 10 material for this thread.

I don't suppose there is a chance you could weigh a couple to see what they actually are? I'm dying of curiosity here.

Pretty standard IMO.

The ones I've weighed myself heard about before have been accurate with regard to the lbs stated.

If that's standard, I'm living in an alternative reality.

You're telling me you've seen plates that are labeled both 10kg & 25 lb on the same plate? And you've not only seen this once, but in many different places?

I get saying 45lb/20kg or even 10lb/5kg. Those are within 10%. 25lb/10kg is just beyond the pale.

Those are all terrible. So terrible that ranking their terribleness is not worth the effort. But I suppose, I'd have to agree that 10/25 tilts me the most.

I can understand using a 20kg bar with lb plates. Sometimes, you've just got to use what you have available. However, actually writing 45lbs on a 20kg bar is just wrong.

Another one for the plate hall of fame.

(it's not a 45)

Couple of solid ggos today.

1) This lean dude probably 5'10" 175 benching nearby. He loads 2 plates and gets super pumped for it, then unracks the bar and does a 5 repper to near failure. No spotter. His form can only be described as someone getting electrocuted. A constant moderate voltage during the eccentric, then a full jolt during the concentric like someone being tased. Ass coming like 12 inches off the bench on every rep. He then loads 245 and hits it for a triple that he almost misses. Then 275 for a single. Honestly pretty impressive aside from being hilarious and extremely dangerous.

2) Tall guy maybe 6'4" 220lb doing gravitron pullups with the entire stack of 175 plus the extra two 5lb adjusters.

I feel like there is real money to be made with a reality show where someone just goes on Safaris to various globogyms to see the stupid **** people do. I'd watch the **** out of that.

White skinhead looking kid (he wasnt, just had that look) listening to metal on his headphones and rocking away. Was observing him in between sets because, let's face it, watching gym idiots is entertaining. At random intervals he would hum or chant/yell whatever song/lyrics he was listening to. Fast forward to 2 black dudes walking towards him (Bench Press was next to him) and him kind of locking eyes with them and yelling 'OBEY YOUR MASTER!'. First dude goes flying at him ready to mess him up, but (sadly) the other kept kind of held him back and then the white kid figured out what just happened and apologized.

A new low was reached in Globogym Mask Slacking. All THREE employees manning the front desk were offenders; two female members of the Royal Beard Guard + one dude wearing it as a neck warmer.

As far as I'm concerned gym is kind of a no mask zone anyway. It's like dealing with the mafia. Everyone going there knows the stakes.

Most people at my gym have pretty much settled into pulling down their mask for heavy sets and catching a breath after, and pulling them up when walking around. IMO that's reasonable and reduces the risk compared to no masks by quite a lot.

I was in Nevada recently and they mandate masks at the gym 100% of the time. And, for some reason, the state banned use of lockers and showers. It seemed excessive to me, but most people there just seemed happy gyms were open at all, as they were closed for about six months.

well, its the neighborhood boys for shaw. The specific neighborhood of the gym is the strongest factor in how Covid safe it is. Globogym's North Scottsdale branch has strict mask compliance, and the patrons aren't shy to tell each other to keep it on.

Prick. It sucks on so many levels (what if a girl wanted to use it after?)

I watched as the manager of mine actually tracked a kid down recently and made him re-rack the leg press...feel like that doesn't happen to often.

Theres should be a three strike policy or something for that crap.

It's probably tough for gym owners. Classic tragedy of the commons. I leave weights on sometimes too just out of bitterness for the fact that I had to clean up someone else's weights in order to get started. You either have an environment where everyone's considerate or it devolves into tit for tat chaos.

Good one today. I saw someone in my periph messing around with the J hooks on the hammer strength power rack. They'd been set on one side and he obviously wanted them to be switched to the other side so he could look at himself in the mirror. He took one out of the slot and tried to move it to the back upright on the same side and it wouldn't notch into the slot. You see, these J hooks are handed. The left one fits into the left upright on one side and into the right upright on the other side, and vice versa for the other. He literally tried to make it work in the wrong side for idk at least 2.5 minutes before, and I'm not joking, giving up. He gave ****ing up.

lol I've seen multiple people get flummoxed over that exact same thing. I usually take pity and shout out "swap em!" then make a kind of traffic-directing gesture when they look over. The response is almost universally "oh, duh."

2.5 mins of trying is impressive, though.

I should have helped him. But as a rule I just don't do that at the gym. You never know how people are going to take it.

Day manager at gym who I've never seen wearing a mask ranting to two regs who I've never seen wearing a mask about some guy he threw out of the gym after yelling at him about wearing open toed shoes.

Our 24 hour gym very late seems to be having a problem with strange types hanging in there late at night. Asking to borrow phone, rides, and talking practically psychotic, scaring women with weirdness and i can't blame them.

1x per week minimum

Bro approaches me on a platform/at a station in our mainly empty gym...today it was Preacher Curl bench thing. Stands really close by and stares but says nothing

I finish my set and take out my ear buds.

Bro: 'are you still training here?'

Me: 'yep'

Bro continues to stand there

Me: 'want to work in?'

Bro:. 'nah, how many more have you got?'

Me: 'prolly 2'

Bro rolls his eyes, keeps standing really close.

this honestly makes old man take out his phone and take longer between sets.

Nice...actually quite uniquely satisfying making people who act like dicks at the gym wait as long as possible.
