If hiking is your passion don't stop imo. Just might have to eat more and you may find that the soreness subsides as your body adapts to it.

And when you start learning cleans, learn them from the hang position first.
Thanks.

Just Youtubed the cleans from a hang, I'm assuming the "hang" part just means you're not dropping the bar after each rep?

Also, day 1 I added standing dumbbell arm curls 3x5 (not sore at all, probably because I'm supposed to find max weight on 10 reps for this exercise, not 5?), even though every SS primer condemns that.

Convince me not to do arm curls? I already understand the compound exercises work the arms indirectly. They always say not to add anything but I don't see why not?

Ok, that's the last of my OTness.

The hang position is just the position you're at at the top of a deadlift, standing upright with bar hanging from your arms. You then lean over a bit and stick your butt back, and then try to do the jumping/hip extension/trap shrugging part whatever you want to call it.

It will be easier to learn the lift if you break it down into simpler parts first.

The first number that popped into my head was 10 reps. So I'll take the over on this one if the line is 0.5. I'll either be a genius or an idiot.

the more work you do, the more your body has to recover from. since you are a noob to weight training, increasing the volume of lifting you do (ie adding curls) might hinder the advancement of the other, more important lifts.

also if you really care about your guns, you could do chin ups instead of cleans. every one agrees cleans are awesome, but i for one suck so hard at them that doing them is not that productive.

Is it possible that it'll hinder my progress on the other exercises without me even realizing it or feeling sore, though?

If that's the case then I'll drop them now, otherwise I'll keep adding them as long as my arms aren't getting sore, which they haven't yet at all

I've done them both days now, 3x5. I can already tell my shoulders will be annihilated when I wake up in 10 hours, thighs too, but everything else is fine

feeling soreness in your arms will not be the problem: the problem is over taxation of the central nervous system, which will not be localised. i would say there is a reason that curls are not included in SS, and to trust rip over yourself when it comes to programming. obviously curls will not kill you though. if you are going to do them, you really dont need to do them both days.

In PPST Rip talks about including assistance exercises as you progress on SS. so like, wait and stuff.

saw an old guy doin this thaaang at the gym.

he was on the pulldown station, standing a bit away from it and looked like he was doing a pullover kinda variation.

arms start above head, straight limb the bar in an arc down towards his waist

as the bar approaches his waist he'd raise his right knee to meet it, repeat and raise his left knee.

i could not figure out what he was trying to accomplish.

Back to sweating. When I trained for a marathon (don't do it, it's stupid) a few years back the summer leading up to the race I would sweat so freakin' much just standing still. I was never a big sweater before I started putting in serious miles, but I was honestly like a freaking fountain that year and it hasn't gone down much since . Not asian fwiw.

So I was at my school gym today and I saw some kid walk out of the locker room drinking his shake, but he didn't even realize he got some of it on his face, looked sort of ******ed

oh wait, that mofo was me. god I didn't even realize that some of the shake hit my face so I'm ****ing walking to my car wondering why people were sort of looking at me.

luckily I didn't pass too many people, and didn't really see anyone I knew.

Always a sweater.....genetics, genetics, genetics. Just thinking about heat. Possibly affects performance for me. Can get difficult holding onto a bar during a workout and is a pain in summer when playing basketball indoors w/out AC (hard to even grab the ball at times).

I also was training for just a half marathon. Ran 11.5 miles at 5:30am on a very humid day (temp was between 65-70). Lost 15 lbs in that run (about 90 minutes). Despite carrying liquids & gels.

I can say I wasn't right all day (starting weight: 198 finished: 183).

I can say there won't be any more distance runs in my future.

my sweat is radioactive. nothing I was doing before would stop my underarm sweating really, and I noticed caffeine made it much much worse. I would be sweating from my underarms just sitting in my chair playing poker

then I found this **** and it magically stopped

it doesn't stop me from perspiring all over when I lift though. I pour buckets when I lift, which I'm cool with though
