when will people learn that the leg press is such a piece of **** exercise

Leg presses are supposed to be legit for advanced lifters IIRC. It's a recovery thing or something.

In 5/3/1 leg presses are suggested after squats.

In my gym, people will often take a barbell, stick it through the sled at an appropriate opening and put more plates on it. This stuff alone shows that the leg press can't be right.

ROFL@being asked to sit on it. WTF?

Ya, I was trying to avoid that. Pretty expensive.

I've read tons about the leg press where it's just puts far too much pressure on your spine in an unnatural position.

I forget who I read it from recently, but it was somebody credible/been around for a while

I got a pretty good one made by Timex, its their cheapest model, for ~$50.

Most strong guys have 2 things in common. They worked hard and for a long time. If you leg press for years I don't doubt you'll get super strong (albeit imbalanced legs?). Its just that squatting gets you there faster.

saw a guy who was at least 60 garciaing it on the exercise ball today, almost wanted to tell him what happened but i didn't want to give him a heart attack

saw some Russian dood who was really jacked doing 1/4 squats to a bench w/ 365...he also wrapped one of those thin aerobic mats over the bar as his p*ssy pad

I was perplexed to say the least.

Some dude today was doing shoulder warmups, or something, by swinging a 25 lb plate in big arm circles really fast. Then he held it with his upper arm out to the side, parallel to the ground, and elbow bent at 90 degrees, swung the weight really fast from top to bottom several times.

I was expecting to see the arm come out of the socket right there, but somehow it held together for today.

So there was some very bromantic lifting going on this evening at the NYSC.

Bros be working their shoulders. One guy holds 5lb plates in each hand outstretched to the sides like a T, while he shuffles his upper-body "Walk Like an Egyptian"-style, with the other bro offering touch-support on the side. It would've been less gay if he was holding dicks in his hands.

I was front squatting and lost my valsalva.

AB,

What would you recommend as a replacement to the Chest supported row in Phase 2 of Max Strength?

T-Bar Rows or Barbell Rows seem to be the logical choice.

You can use an incline bench (prone) and dumbells.

Hmmm....seems like a good idea. I'll see how that turns out when I get to the first workout w/ said exercise.

Saw the funniest thing at my 24hour fitness. The PT (sporting a wicked skull and barbwire tattoo on his bicep) had a dude go into the power cage with the support bars at elbow height. Then he took the barbell with a 5 pound weight on each side and do curls such that the bar would hit the support bars, hold it there for a couple seconds and repeat the curl.

This was perplexing, but right next to him was a guy about my build (6'0, 200-210) walk into the squat rack, rack up 135 and warm up, put another pair on and rep 8, put another pair on and rep 5, then end with 4 ****ing plates on each side and complete several sets with it with each rep going perfectly parallel. I left before he finished because I realized that I must look weird watching these two guys for several minutes.

I was amazed, and the contrast between the two workouts was hilarious.

At my campus gym we have a small indoor track, 9 laps/mile, 3 lanes wide. Tonight there were 11 girls running on it in a group, all wearing a shirt with the letters from their sorority.

10 of the girls were skinny/talking, laughing, barely breaking a sweat. At the lead of the group was a girl who must have been 250 plus, and she looked like she was about to die.

Using the leg sled by itself is typically dumb or for bodybuilders (but I repeat myself). However, it's often used by late intermediate and advanced trainees for recovery and back-off work after heavy squatting on their "leg day."

Gym Observation: Prior to integrating squats and deadlifts into my routine I never really grunted or sweated while working out. Now grunting and sweating are a common occurence.
