There's a 24hr maccas just around the corner from GS, its standard for people to be eating burgers pre, during and post WO.

Finally had a guy ask to work in when I was using a adjustable bench. Respect.

Guy who id marked as a douche at my gym a long time ago started running a boxercise class.

Despite being 95% cardio with a bit of shadow boxing/pad work, he obviously wears full on boxing boots laced to the top.

He would also get the girls to hit him in the stomach when doing pad work and tell them to do it harder and 'don't worry you can't hurt me'

So cringeworthy.

LOL

Not sure if you're serious?

My programming requires me to make adjustments on the fly after each set, so I spend a minute or two after each set analyzing data and calculating the weight for the next set

I also video each set so that I can review my form and make minor adjustments for the next set

I find it far more efficient to cut and upload each video after I record each one than to wait until I'm home

This easily takes up the majority of my time between sets and keeps me on my phone. Surely you're okay with all of this?

But this really ignores the most pivotal point, which is that it's none of your business what someone does between sets. Surf 2+2, watch TV on an iPad, eat a hamburger, etc.

It's when they are staring at their phone sitting on a machine or bench for 10 mins which makes it annoying. Also people walking in a gym looking at their phones are a danger to others, I had a guy walk into my leg during a leg extension a few weeks ago because of this.

I frequently take ten minutes between sets.

To your other point, fair enough. Though I'd argue those people are careless ******less of whether they are on their phone.

Does power/strength stuff really require 10 minutes between sets?

It can. I rest until I am fully recovered. I force myself to take at least 5 minutes and often take between 7-10.

I guess what I'd say if you approached me in the gym is that while I'm happy to discuss the merits of elongated recovery intervals between sets, it's otherwise none of your business

Contemplator made this month's LC thread. I'm not a lawyer but I think that gives him full immunity until August. Proceed with caution.

Ya you're probably training at a better gym than me, mine only has 1 rack so I can't imagine using it for an hour. All gyms should have 90% power racks and this wouldn't really be a problem

Ehhhhhh my gym has one power rack, one squat rack, three benches. It sucks. There's a back room with a deadlift platform and bumper plates. I wish they'd convert that entire room into nothing but power racks.

I'm aware of how long I use a bench or the power rack, so I watch for people who are waiting (or who ask how long I'll be) and I offer to share the station with them.

A while back this one standard fat powerlifting guy was waiting for the power rack. I said he was welcome to work in with me. He said nah, he'd never let me work in with him, so it was only fair for him to wait however long it would take me to finish. LOL RESPEKT.

I don't time exactly how long I rest, but its not uncommon if I take about 10 - 20 minutes between heavy DL or squat attempts.

I train with a team, so we're all sharing equipment all the time. Busto's way of doing stuff makes sense though.

I would say 10 min is way to long unless you're doing 1 rep or 2 rep at either 1RM or like 98% 1RM. Personally on 3 rep stuff I take at most 3 mins.

Let me know if your opinion changes after you put 600 lbs on your back.

Recovery rates and relativeness imo - YMMV

What about AMRAP sets?

agh don't want to do this in the GGO thread! heh

AMRAP is a specialty endurance scenario and has a lot less to do with strength IMO.

Of everything AMRAP is probably way more about individual glycogen recovery rates which is going to have A LOT to do with pre and intra-workout nutrition, if you wanna get all brosciency about it.

So a bro offered to film me after he saw me setting up my phone on the floor to film my squats. Afterwards he asked me the following:
-Why do you only do squats and deadlifts? (I don't, not even close)
-Don't you care about your chest and arms?
-Why do you lift so heavy (wtf?)

If I was quicker and more of a troll this was a golden opportunity I guess

Seems like maybe an opportunity for some genuine altruism. Maybe he just hasn't been shown the light if he's asking those questions.

Aye I'm not much of a troll so I just tried to answer genuinely and he seemed reasonably interested.

@ Halfslant and FakeB

I look forward to the gym as my one time to zone out and think about absolutely nothing including the actual lifting. It's interesting that FakeB focuses on the lifting with the real time adjustments and Halfslant is able to indulge in distractions. Once in a while I think about all the hot Chinese pussy around me, which is inevitable.

For me, 7 min rests between balls out squat sets is standard and anywhere from 1-5 for non maximal working sets. My rest periods don't need to change much based on rep range, maybe a bit more for higher rep sets. If I'm doing relatively low (for me) rep DL sets in the 1-6 range I barely need any rest until the next one even if it's max effort Like 2-3 minutes is fine. If it's high reps I need a ton of rest and the rest goes up exponentially with the number of reps. When it goes into the 10+ range I need like 10 min rests. I'm not even sure I could continue a workout without a straight up 30 minute sit down if I did a 20 rep max effort DL set.

One of the weirder things I've seen.
Lady in the smith machine. On her knees with bar on her back leaning over about 45deg then back up.

Now on all fours doing a leg raise behind her with it.

And has her son filming so she can post to facebook(per my mediocre understanding of Spanish)
