Dr. stuff

My last doc told me my sugar was high and i was borderline pre-diabetic. I think my level was 101 or so. Got a new doctor and a round of tests and he said I wasn't even close because they never just look at that, they combine it with hemoglobin a1c which was definitely in the normal range. My previous dr. never mentioned this.

Sugar did go down to 98, though. I've lost about 15 lbs and he said that definitely could be a factor.

Weighed in less than 200. First time in a looooooooooonnnngggg time.

The a1c blood test is to see average sugar levels throughout previous 3 months.

I mentioned a few days ago we have a new innovation team.

I just found out one of my goals for the year (under the category of innovation) is:

Quote:
Improve at least one Agility lever for 50% of the tech portfolio
Hopefully they will tell me what that means.

Made a drunk bet that I could triple my max push-ups in 3 months. Did 27 so gotta do 81 on May 15th. Anyone got any advice for programming and/or strategy?

27 was with no training just liquid courage and was more than I expected fwiw. Maybe do some drugs and alcohol before attempting the 81??

Do people still smoke PCP? I'd go with that personally.

Also for next time you should probably sandbag your initial 'max' push-ups when making this kind of bet

81 in three months won't happen imo. My advice to give yourself the best shot would be to do a lot of push-ups.

I guess it depends. If he is 140 pounds and completely untrained I don't see why not. If he is 220 and already goes to the gym 3x/week, probably not.

Impressive. I attempted to discuss how job titles are flexible within an engineering department (or companies at large). It was about the same level of jargon as that.

Apparently VP of Technology is a job title that exists? I don't even know wtf that means. Is it the tech stack equivalent of Chief Happiness Officer?

lol @ believing advanced level lifters or professional national team coaches are automatically good coaches for beginners tbh.

Probably old DYLEL looking dudes who have coached a ****ton of beginners are the best, and probably typical intermediate lifters who are kinda aspie are pretty close.

I dunno man. What if you got some piece of paper and then start rambling about bar whip to someone who can't C+J 100?

I guess I could give you some advice on how to pull the bar farther from your body in preparation for anticipated GH gut that impedes your current bar path. Seems as useful.

Just don't give them bizarre FPS advice and/or injure them routinely.

I got ****ing nothing/set back significantly from coaching. Clarence is also self coached. And surprise surprise, even with Xpert polish pro coaching, he too got nothing out of it and was infact significantly set back. He ended up with a surgery from Poland.

The reason you can't do something is most likely poor athleticism and coordination or in some unlikely cases a lack of aspieness and attention to detail. The 2nd one can be fixed by a coach, but not the first. The first is all you, bro. If you're aspie enough to play poker professionally, it's probably the first.

The other alternative is that your expectations for the rate at which you develop competence are wildly out of whack for a very difficult but not complicated sport.

edit: not true, I did have one fairly helpful coach in the very beginning when snatching like 145x3x5 from high hang. That Israeli 5'2 guy who won his IFBB pro card and later went on to squat 700lbs out of a monolift in some crappy federation. He was a former national champ before bbing. I can't remember his damn name though. It was free in person just while he happened to be training at the same times.

So it's not worthless... but don't expect any miracles.

I feel like watching a gazillion instagram weightlifting videos before starting out has been terrible for me. I went into training trying to mimic whatever I saw online, mostly by sight and obviously completely wrong, and now over a year later I am still trying to fix mistakes I incorporated all the way in the beginning.

I'm pretty damn sure I'd be further along the line if I had never seen any weightlifting videos and started out a session or 3-4 with a random coach to tell me how **** works and go from there.

I agree with coaching helping your when a n00blord.

Having someone look over your form when coming off injury or if doing something really weird can help. You can start to develop weird habits after extended breaks/injury that hamper maximal weights. But for the first few years just grinding reps is pretty much an ezpz way to gains once you stop doing really dumb ****.

I'll be honest with you: I think your online coaching is really ****ing stupid and you should do 3x/wk tops of classical lifts only in the sub 70% range getting as many perfect reps in as possible. I mean in the range of 20-30 working reps in doubles/triples/4s/5s. If you can't make it look perfect, reduce the weight even if you "make" the lift easily. I mean close to rock bottom catches in your snatches, not losing tightness and catching fairly low in the clean, no pressouts, or shallow splits. A S P I E. Don't plan anything about the weights you'll do on any given training session; maybe plan the sets/reps and plan to lift with perfect technique no ego don't move up the weight unless it's perfect.

Disregrad Coach Yang on programming, but listen to him on technique. Whatever beginner program he gives you is going to be targetted toward an 8-14 year old boy who was handpicked to be an athlete and probably has more GPP and recovery capacity than you, and certainly a ****ton more mobility.

Max out approx once a month. Do your hbbs heavy twice a week, presses 1-3x/wk, fs light once a week, and rows/pullups 3x/wk. Deadlifts are less necessary for fellas built like you and I, but you *could* include them. Keep doing that for another 6 months straight. Is there still a gigantic difference between 60% and 70%? 70% and 80%? If so, continue the same thing until there isn't. Your technique isn't good enough to even bother with more sophisticated programming. You're wasting a lot of energy doing powers/pulls/complexes/sotts press/press in split/jerk dips. It's perfectly analogous to a noob who benches 185x10 weighing 175 thinking he needs to do pin presses, board presses, bands/chains because he feels his lockout is holding him back. Like no wtf just bench more and refine your technique.

What you're doing now is FPS. I don't care who gave it to you. I don't care if he's a good lifter. I don't care how much it cost or if it was free.

Hangs are good, however, keep those.

Why only 3 days a week? Beginners literally can't lift with good technique while fatigued. Don't do oly lifts at all if they're not perfect because you were tired.

goes without saying go balls deep on the squats of course.

I didn't remember to post that in abra log, but hangs are the only partial I think are worthwhile without a clear reason.
