Re: DWarrior's fencing and fluffing log

Thursday: fencing. Felt tired, so my actions and focus weren't very good. One of the fencers pointed out that I wasn't following up my initial action with anything, so it was pretty easy to respond.

Then I thought I'd be out Friday, so I did some extra styff in the dumbbell area:

Bulgarian Split Squat: up to +45x10, +55x15x2 each leg.
- Balancing was kind of weird at first, so I'll need to rewatch form vids. Once I got up to 45 though, it felt reasonably ok. Tried to do speed BSS, but without a jump.

Ab wheel: x15, x15, x10
- shoulders/pecs felt it most, so I couldn't complete the last set. Abs didn't feel much

Turns out I don't have plans Friday, but I don't think I'm in a good shape to fence. Just gonna come in for some brief form work and go home to study.

Re: DWarrior's fencing and fluffing log

Friday: in no shape to fence. Did ~1-1.5 hour of technique work.

My feints usually hit lower than I expect and end up hitting the leg. I realized it's because my finger muscle doesn't re-engage after the feint to raise the blade back up, but that's pretty hard to do.

Focused on clockwise feints and disengages today (most useful vs righties), trying to make them follow a similar path.

Then footwork, practiced direction change on retreat since that's a huge weakness (I can parry, but can't do direction change to close distance for the riposte). Also practiced jumping back to gain a bit of distance vs an accelerating attack. So the overall format was something like: 2 retreats, 1 retreat + half-retreat advance, jump back + advance. Then I worked on retreat + jump back, which was surprisingly hard.

Then more feints/disengages, worked on form over speed.

Right quad, left calf, right shoulder and palm were barely mobile by the end of this. Hopefully this is enough disruption to homeostasis to force adaptation

Still have long ways to go, and I should really read this book on Foil that I bought so I can actually do proper drills.

Re: DWarrior's fencing and fluffing log

You should just dunk the Foil right in their faces since it seems you can jump decently high. Even if they hit you first, the intimidation factor alone and the fact that you sex chicks all day might give you the overall mental edge.

*obv I know nothing about fencing but I enjoy this log somehow anyway so...yeah.

Re: DWarrior's fencing and fluffing log

Saturday: oly. Felt like ass, but persevered. ~10.5 hours of sleep, then ate some chips and walked to the gym.

Snatch technique: triples from hips then knees, up to 55k x3. Felt slow under the bar.

C&J: up to 80k, cleans were lolbad, jerks were mostly bad. 80 lockout, a fail, and an ok one. Dropped back down for technique work.

FS: 115x3x3 (last reps paused), x1x2 paused.

Superset
Back Hypers: +30x15x3
Dips: BWx10, x15x2
PU: BWx10x3

An old asian ping-pong playing man (who I assume is a wise kung-fu sensei on weekdays) told me all the guys in the wl gym looks the same to him, and if I robbed him he wouldn't know who did it. Truth ban?

Except it's pretty much never a good idea, and the refs rule against it pretty harshly. Body contact isn't allowed, and I think they'd always rule it against the person jumping. Plus trying to bring up how I sex chicks all day every day would just make them jello and ref against me more.

Re: DWarrior's fencing and fluffing log

Balls, i need to plan better to recover

Monday: left work late, but decided to fence anyway. Felt pretty crappy. Did some partner drills, some target practice, and fenced (lost) 2 bouts. I think 2 hours total.

Getting like ~7 hours of sleep on weekdays (~10 on weekends), ok food-wise, and rolling ~3 times a week.

Taking Tuesday off to clean the house / study / sleep early.

Re: DWarrior's fencing and fluffing log

Tuesday: thought it might be dehydratuon, so drank tons. Didn't help. Also ate more than usual, but also didn't help.

At least I got some physical signs instead of just feeling like crap. Walking up stairs felt super hard, some random joint pain, and random muscle cramps.

Did nothing today, gonna do light stuff tomorrow, and go HAM on Saturday.

Re: DWarrior's fencing and fluffing log

ended up doing nothing that week+end. Thursday I had to leave work at lunch because I felt really ****ty. Wasn't really sick, but my body felt tired as **** (though I wasn't actually tired mentally). I think this new mattress is way too hard, so it feels like sleeping isn't actually physically restful. Anyway, bought a topper and slept tons, so we'll see.

Monday: fencing. Some distance drills, parry drills, and bouts. Lost the 15-touch and 10-touch, but managed to win the 5 when we were both tired as hell. Took like 40 minutes in between to fix my blade, my tip was mangled.

There's only like 6-8 of us or so total who are white and around the same build, so they could just round us all up.

I just saved that knowledge for the next time I'm walking around and need to punch an old asian man.

Re: DWarrior's fencing and fluffing log

Wednesday: fencing. Maybe 20 minutes footwork (mostly retreats with jump and some direction change). Bladework, transitioning from prep into flick/throw, disengages, or fint to flank. With acclerating steps.

Didn't actually help in bouts at all though, just made me tired and crappy Perhaps I should leave these for the end, so I'm more fresh for real fencing. Meh'd a few bouts, had a lesson (started off really bad, then slowly got better), and some partner drills: lead-follow footwork, then some blade drills.

I feel like partner drills are really useful, and once this guy goes back to school I'll need to find someone else to do these with me.

Re: DWarrior's fencing and fluffing log

Thursday: planned on fencing, but ended up skipping to do the first lecture/assignment for Quantum Computing on Coursera.

Just did:
PGPUx20 (pr)
Push-ups: 50 (pr)

Gonna whiteboard chins imo!

Parallel grip pull-ups, the iron gym has grips for them.
