re: Dudd's Texas Method Log

Today:

Squat: 3x5x220
Bench: 1x4x150, 2x5x150
Deadlift: 1x5x255

Pussied out and redid the squat set from Monday, felt a lot better. Also pussied out on my first set on the bench, I don't know whether I didn't rest enough after my final squat set/warmup bench sets or what, but I didn't even attempt the fifth rep of the first set. Manned up and pounded out 2x5 after that though, don't know what was wrong with the first one.

Deadlift, my grip was starting to go on my workset, so I switched to a mixed grip two reps in. Probably need to buy some chalk to help with that. Anyways, it's starting to feel a little bit heavy, so I'm probably going to cut back to a 10-15 pound increase next time instead of 20, depending on however I'm feeling that day.

re: Dudd's Texas Method Log

Today:

Squat: 3x5x225
Press: 3x5x100
Powerclean: 5x3x110

Right knee felt a little stiff during my warmups for the squat, but as I worked up to 225 it loosened up and felt a lot better. Weight itself felt pretty good, it went up pretty easily. Press and the powerclean weren't as nice, banged them out but the form felt inconsistent from rep to rep, especially on the clean. I really need to remember to bring a camera on Wednesday.

Def get chalk asap. Rip says use it for every lift. It will help prevent callouses (dry skin doesn't tear like moist skin) and make your grip more secure. They should have it at a sporting goods store or outdoor store.

re: Dudd's Texas Method Log

Today:

Squat: 3x5x230
Bench: 3x5x155
Deadlift: 1x5x275

Today really felt good, powered right through the squat and bench so I decided to try adding 20 pounds to the deadlift one more time. Did all five reps, but it was a struggle, grip was really weak even with a mixed grip, and I felt like I was using more of my back to lift rather than my legs compared to my other workouts. Ordered chalk from Amazon yesterday, so hopefully that will make a difference when it arrives, but it's pretty clear that the days of making 20 pound jumps on the deadlift are over.

re: Dudd's Texas Method Log

Alright, videos finished uploading, so here's a bomb of a whole bunch from today.

Squat:
5x235, first work set. Rear angle
5x235, third work set, side angle.

Press:
5x105, first work set from the back
5x105, third work set from the side.

Powercleans (lots of them):
Warming up with the bar, side view
3x95, warmup, side view
3x115, first work set, side view
3x115, third work set, rear view focusing on the feet

Any pointers on any of that appreciated.

Knees caving on the squats. Shove em out, keep em out for the rest of your life. Also you should get some better shoes, notice the wobble in your shoes at the bottom of the squat. Your feet should be solidly connected to the floor with no wobble. A flat soled shoe like the chuck taylor will work, or even better get some actual weightlifting shoes with a raised heel.

re: Dudd's Texas Method Log

Ugh, today was a disaster:

Squat: 1x5x240, 1x1x240, 1x2x235
Bench: 3x5x160
Deadlift:1x4x285

I tried really focusing on sitting back and keeping the knees out, maybe too much. When I was warming up at first with the bar, trying to keep my weight back resulted in my actually taking a step back on every rep. I did another set or two with the bar focusing on just the knees and felt like I was more balanced while still being more on the heels, and then my warmups and first workset went fine. Complete utter failure after that, got one rep on my second set and then lost the weight backwards, which sucked because I banged the back of my head on the bar after it came to rest. So I took the weight off, then reloaded the bar with the weight I did on Wednesday. Banged two reps out of that and then failed again, at least this time without losing my balance backwards. Called it a day after that.

On a positive note, bench was good, added five pounds to that. Then on the deadlift, my grip just sucks. I ordered chalk on Sunday but it hasn't arrived yet (damn post office). Anyways, even though my squat was an absolute wreck today, for some reason I decided to add weight to my deadlift anyways. Got four reps at 285 with my grip failing quite badly on the fourth rep, so I didn't even decide to try a fifth one. Overall, very discouraging.

Squats are fine minus the knee cave, which has already been commented on. VS Athletics shoes, very nice.

re: Dudd's Texas Method Log

Today:

Squat: 1x3x240, 2x5x225
Press: 1x5x110, 1x4x110, 1x5x110
PC: 5x3x115

So, 240 is proving to be a stumbling block, and it's getting worse, at least I completed one set of five on Friday. Anyways, took weight off and reset at 225, will do 230 on Wednesday. Had to fit the workout before tip on ND/Nova at 7, so I rushed through the press and failed a rep on my second set due mostly to not resting enough I think, third set was good. Didn't add weight to the powerclean, tried to focus on not pulling with the arms. Sometimes it was good, sometimes it wasn't, didn't bring a camera so can't look at it now.
