One thing I've been thinking about, though I'm unsure how well it'd work, would be to pick rep targets and only move up if you hit said rep target each week (or 2 of the 3 weeks in the event you have an abnormally ****ty day). It'd require resetting the working weight, though.

I guess that's sort of how I've done it in the past. As long as the 5/3/1 wave was at least 3 reps and the 3 wave was at least 5 reps then I moved up. I don't really care about the 5 wave because I'm good at repping **** out.

Did a volume squat day some time last week at 265.

6-10

Speed Deadlifts- 239x1x8 vs oranges on the minute
Squats- 154x5x2, 220x3, 265x2x2, 285x1, 305x1, 320x4
Rollouts- +25x2, +50x4, +25x6, BWx20 done in succession with no rest.

Eh. Been sick. Will hopefully get back into the swing of things in Denver.

So I'm supposed to hike Mt. Elbert on Sunday. The peak is 14,440 feet, and the hike will be about 9 miles. Also I'm sick and down to about 155 lbs, so I don't really expect this to go well.

Doesn't sound like a pleasure hike if you're sick...that's for sure. But gl!

As expected Elbert was ****ing brutal. Had a pretty bad altitude headache the whole day and used an entire roll of toilet paper blowing my nose or coughing stuff up from my lungs. Took about 8 hours in all to go from the trailhead to the summit and back.

My knees hate me today.

I didn't do a super arduous hike while there, but we did get up to around 11k feet and that began to suck. 14k must be pretty awful.

After hydrating and stuff I'm a bit under 160. I really hope to get gym access this week so I can get back at it. Working from home leaves me with sooooo much time for meal preparation, SMR, napping, icing, etc that I really have absolutely no excuse to not see some sick gains over the next few months.

Gonna set some lofty goals of 180 lbs, 405 squat, 275 bench, 495 DL in 2012.

KC the altitude was annoying more than anything else. I had a constant light headache and if I didn't focus on the ground then I would get dizzy and stumble. And I'd walk like 20 yards and be out of breath, keep going for another 10 yards, then stop for 2-3 minutes and recuperate and let the lactic acid dissipate. I think most of the discomfort would've been avoided if I were not sick and had even a modicum of endurance.

One of the guys I was hiking with was a pretty good runner from Boston (sub 15 minute 5k) and he didn't seem the least bit bothered by the altitude.

it's the sad truth, I have a lot of free time, yet all I've managed to do lately is about 10 min SMR work in the morning

i have heard there is an inverse relationship between aclimitizing to high altitude and fitness. anecdotelly i found this to be true!

from wikipiedeia

Risk factors

Altitude sickness tends to affect men more than women, especially men between the ages of 16 and 25, for unknown reasons. It is important to remember that just because you are young and healthy, and haven't experienced altitude sickness in the past doesn't mean you are immune to it on future climbs. Physical fitness is not necessarily a good indicator, and neither are strength or good health. You may react badly to altitude despite being fit, young and healthy. In fact, the fit, young and healthy have a hidden risk: their general physical capacity leads them to believe that they should handle altitude just fine, which is not always true.

Huh interesting stuff. I'm always amazed by the stuff that it turns out we don't know much about. Cluster headaches, allergies, altitude sickness, etc.

Gonna let this log die. Will start another tomorrow morning: Doug's Mile High Log
