Re: Doug's Mile High Log

DB handles too thick isn't a legitimate complaint IMHO.

Fair. Though my Fat Gripz are now completely useless.

IMO you can't really audit your own form on Oly lifts without a video. Everything happens too fast and is too complex for you to feel it. For the first month when I started out my coach's programming was basically: triples, doubles, and singles working up to a max drop snatch starting with just 20kg. Then strip down to just the bar again and work up to a max hang snatch in doubles and singles.

I don't see how anyone could possibly learn the full snatch without doing drop snatches, and keeping the bar close to your body during the 2nd pull is way easier to learn from the hang than it is from the floor.

My .02 but I'm a pretty terrible Oly lifter who can basically only do a passable hang snatch.

I think my squat is around 350 right now. But I can definitely pull more than 405.

How jacked are you Doug? At 155 and with that deadlift/squat/bench that seems very jaysickian.

Re: Doug's Mile High Log

I have a small frame. In a normal T shirt I look like I don't lift. Without a shirt on most people would probably say I look like I weigh 180. But training purely for aesthetics is gay. I understand caring about how you look, that's why I'm not 50 lbs heavier and a bunch stronger, but in the gym I can't really respect anyone that cares more about looks than performance.

That makes sense.

But if an individual is not involved heavily in sports, working out for aesthetics will give most everyone the performance boost they are looking for. After all, performance and aesthetics at the end of the day are both accomplished by progressive tension overload.

Re: Doug's Mile High Log

I would argue that working out for performance gives everyone the aesthetic boost they are looking for. Provided that they don't suck at working out for performance. Which a lot of people actually do, because performance is hard.

Which is probably why I'm such a failure at actually getting strong.

Re: Doug's Mile High Log

Anything from side view to 45 degrees in front should show extension well enough.

Assuming this is bruiser, I'm surprised you're having this issue. The one time I made you do hang power snatches your extension looked fine and you were not losing the weight forward. If you are now trying to transition to full snatches I suspect that you just suck at dropping vertically under the bar and are accidentally pushing it forward or dropping backwards.

Some drop snatch practice should help with that. As would Oly shoes.

Yeah working from home is awesome/****ty. It's awesome for all the reasons you expect, and ****ty because after working 10 12 hour days in a row and not speaking to anyone but your girlfriend and the guy behind the desk at the gym, the outside world can be a bit overwhelming.

7-4

Hiked 6 miles.

+1 to all of this, except for the hiking 6 miles part.

I'm less productive at home. Too easy to screw around.
