Is it just me or has there been nothing of any value in the CFJ for several weeks now. Nothing since the Burgener C+J vids that I can think of.

I know how many Sears articles do we need? Think i read somewhere he actually sells his own branded version of fish oil so something to bear in mind. Fish oil is the bomb of course regardless. My CFJ subscription has just lapsed even though it's cheap there's so little i'm actually interested in i'm prob not going to renew it. Just seems they pump crappy videos out just to make the numbers or split them into parts for no reason.

lol CF comment for the workout in the OP:

Quote:
For those of you complaining that this workout isn't functional, what happens if you're in an emergency situation and you lose the use of one arm? Say you fall into a deep hole and land on your shoulder, elbow, wrist, and can't use one arm to climb out? I don't know about you, but I would hope my other arm was strong enough to pull me out of there.

As loltarded as that comment is, it really stems from a reasoning pervasive throughout xfit (and endorsed at the cert) that in order to getter better at X you must do X (or something really close to it). When really, that is completely ****ing wrong. Eg. the NFL combine bench press test. Xfit reasoning is: do 225lbs as many times as you can every few days. Clearly this is ******ed, but it's exactly the same as trainers at the xfit cert saying the best way to get better at crossfit is to do crossfit. Instead of you know, going from a 0.75bw squat to a 1.5bw squat. hyachahhachac

If the rumors on CF message board are true you'll be seeing/hearing a lot more from Mr Sears. Someone thinks he's pegged to replace Robb Wolf as speaker @ Nutrition certs/seminars.

Split jerk pic is AllisonNYC. Think she's a trainer out of Virginia Beach and they're big fans of CFFB. There were some clips of her interviewed years ago. I remember them being kind of creepy.

Hard to argue with that picture of her. Although Thremp did point out the chalk bucket and spillage.

Yes, I am up to date on that. I do not read CFJ because none of it really applies to me and I don't support CFHQ, so I hope not to read too much more about Mr. Sears.

Squat 385, press 175, deadlift 455(pr), 1015 crossfit total (pr)

Had a goal of 1000 for a long time, and for almost as long of a time I thought I wouldn't get there, so this felt pretty good.

You workout at Windy City Crossfit? I may look into joining there when I move to Chicago next fall. I assume you do since they did a CF total today as WOD and your location is Chicago. If so, what do you think of it?

Edit: You definitely do.... I just looked at the comments on there website and there was a DT with the same numbers

Thanks. I'm 6'6" 235 right now. 20-30 lbs better on each lift at 205 is awesome, especially on press.

Yep, that's the box. I have been there about 6 months maybe, and I have a really positive impression of it. I feel lucky that, imo, many criticisms of CF in general that I have read at various places on the internet don't seem to apply to windy city.

I have a little bit of a different perspective too, since twice a week I train there with a group that focuses on oly (7ontheline, who posts here, trains with this group too and has for longer than I have). The coach for this group is awesome. There are two other main coaches here as well (one is the owner), who are also solid. While I do not think any of them have coached for longer than 5 years, they take their jobs seriously and I can't criticize their coaching, from an amateur exercise nerd perspective, at least.

Just recently, they started listing all their programming on the web. Previously (maybe more than a couple of weeks ago) they either listed a strength movement or a metcon, but typically both were done each day. I think this is a major plus, as obv strength shouldn't be neglected. Additionally, the metcons are typically a good/short length, with longer ones 2-4x/month? Again, since I'm following different programming 2 days a week for oly, my perspective may be off a little.

So I guess in summary-
+ they don't neglect strength; important obv
+ offer oly classes/programming, which rules for me since I love that ****
+ coaches are solid, esp. oly coach
+ open gym hours twice a week (one on Thursday to do makeup WOD or skill work, one where you can do whatever on Sunday)

only negative? It's getting pretty popular/crowded some days. I don't think this has been an issue to date, but who knows what the situation will be next fall.

I'd check it out for sure, though.
