I was probably already 185 lbs by last March, but point taken. Very depressing indeed. At this rate I should reach a 200 lb press about the time I reach 400 lbs.

Re: jdock99's 90s weak log

Workout 8/21/10

Press
155 1x4
last rep was a multi-second grindout. I am gonna have to get a lot stronger if I am to add weight and hope to reach even 4 reps.

Push press practice
135 1x3
155 1x3
When I get the timing good of energy transfer from lower to upper body these are easy. When the timing is off they are hard.

Deadlift
335 1x5
This is my first deadlift in over two weeks, so I dropped some weight. They still were deathly hard, but what else isn't new

Re: jdock99's 90s weak log

Monday 8/23/10

Benchpress 240 5x5

This is a 5x5 PR for me. Friday I am definitely going for 2 plates and a 25 on each side (275 lbs total). Hoping for 3-4 reps. I think at this point 300 lbs 1 rep max is a reasonable short term goal with 3 plates (315 lbs) being a longer term goal. Time will tell.

First set was the hardest except for the last. Maybe this means I am not warming up well enough, and have to grease the groove better.

Squat
285 3x5
These were easy.... NOT

Pullups
10, 10, 8

In all three sets first 5 were easy, then hit a wall and rest were hard. LOL muscle endurance. On a positive note, this is about what I could do when I weighed 165 so relative strength is keeping up as I become a fatty.

Pullthru's

you are way stronger than most of the ppl on this forum who have been working out longer and seemingly with better discipline.

I think I actually have much better discipline than the average H&Fer, I just disagree with some programming decisions that are probably small stones in the grand scheme of things.

As discussed above, I have not dieted at all in the last year (which I think is very important in delaying stalling) and from workout to workout I generally always put more weight on the bar. I think many posters on this forum psyche themselves out and find excuses to stop progressing far short of their "genetic potential."

Sometimes you have to just say F it, load the bar, and lift-- regardless of how sh*tty you feel.

In short, "I (more or less) do the program."

I also do not think I am especially strong (In many lifts I am weaker), compared to other posters on this board near my size doing similar programs, for example Blackkeys, Assani Fisher, or KhalynYork.

Afaik all those guys have worked out for a decent amount of time. But yeah, not dieting is clutch.

Your chesticles must be hudge by now.

Jdock started with quite a solid base judging from the first post.

Not really. I think you have to do specific hypertrophy work (or have good genetics) to get Jersey shore-esque pecs. I think if you are just training for power (in the 5 rep range) you can get a lot stronger without getting hudge defined chesticles.

Re: jdock99's 90s weak log

you could do all the high rep work possible and never get them. like, it may help a little to do some high rep stuff, but unless you're pretty damn strong in a "chest-based" lift, your chest won't ever be very big. that's why i was laughing when people were saying ronnie from jersey shore couldn't bench 300lb. basically if you believed that why aren't you trying it?

And of course, having a very low BF is pretty key if you want to show off your manly (?) chest as well.

In addition to doing higher rep stuff, it seems to me most bro's with Jerseyshore-esque physiques do a lot more chest-based exercises. For example, chest-day might include something like bench, incline bench, dumbell bench, dumbell flies, cable flies, etc.

As far as your statement, every time I go to the gym I am a little shocked by the number of bros that are "ripped" (which you can tell cause most of them wear loose spaghetti strap tank-tops so you can see most of their upper body) who struggle benching doing partial reps with relatively light weight.

On the flip side, I have a pretty good amount of chest strength, yet if I walked around in a tank-top or shirt-less you would probably have a hard time guessing I even worked out at all. Some of this is due to genetics, and some to body fat levels I am sure, but I think a lot of it has to do with programming also.

Re: jdock99's 90s weak log

Wednesday 08/25/10

My body really felt dead today, but I am going to be very busy at work Thurs and Friday so had to squeeze in a workout today. Plus after that little monologue I posted a few days ago about sucking it up, I'd feel retarded if I wussed out now. Anyways, luckily today was an upper body "recovery" day so I really only had to suck it up for squats.

Press
115 3x5

Squats
290 3x5

Bodyweight dips 3x10

I really should have done some kind of "pulling" exercise today instead of the dips, but I did pullups Monday and will deadlift on Saturday, so is not the end of the world.
