Hey man I'm not sure if you do this but what I find helps a lot with weight lose is cutting out soda's, fruit juice etc from your diet and just drinking water. Just a heads up

Hey man I have noticed that. Throughout high school I was highly active and I used to drink like 1-2 liters of orange juice a day. Once I stopped being so active I def needed to cut that out. If I have it around I can't stop drinking it. So I don't even buy that stuff anymore, same for pop. So from now on I just have an old milk jug of water in the fridge so cold water. And on occasion I'll drink sparkling water to mix it up, or a make a crystal light or something.

Def have to start cooking more and less of things like mac and cheese like yesterday. But a busy week with multiple exams and projects

If you like it, I'd swap greek yogurt or "skyr" for the yoplait. More protein, less carbs. Very satisfying. I like "siggi's" which has started appearing pretty much everywhere. They have a non-fat version which is OK for a 2% version which is pretty great. The non-fat is way more common

The mac and cheese is kind of a bad choice, yeah. I understand the appeal of stuff that's easy to make. My strategy, which is probably a common one, is to cook a few pounds of chicken or beef ahead of time, and eat with frozen vegetables, if you want something quick/easy. Like I buy pre-marinated chicken or fajita meat or whatever. Also I often buy frozen shrimp which are very easy to stir fry with vegetables - I can make dinner in probably 10 minutes without too much work. In this way it's easy to make like 600 cal dinners with 40-50g protein. They're kind of boring if you're not inventive, but they're filling/satisfying. I usually aim for 8-12 oz of meat and 1+ cups of vegetables.

so I didn't want to post this. And I didn't want to record the end of the night. I kind of binged.

Was all good for the day, was cooking dinner, a chicken rice stir fry, and i would have been at about 1600 calories for the day. But the sauce came out too fast and was way too spicy, couldn't eat it. I had to make another rice and cook up more chicken, make a double batch to make it even edible. And i ended up eating almost all of it. I was having a rough day, I am also dealing with depression stuck alone in apartment. Then those 2 giant bowls of cereal noted in breakfast i ate around midnight. Just only time eaten previously has been breakfast so I didn't have to search it all up again.

I've been going to bed hungry having worked out so much and trying to eat less than usual and i guess last night just depressed didn't give a **** and pigged out. .

The only greek yogurt I've tried is that chibani one which I didn't love, but only tried once and one flavor so maybe not fair. When I lived overseas I used to eat the generic just plain unflavored yogurt cups but gotten used to this sweet stuff. Maybe should think about going back to plain yogurt. Also could buy that in the bigger containers and probably save money compared to the liek $.70 a thing of yoplait. Because I usually do eat yogurt every day for breakfast.

That is a good idea, i've never done premarinated but usually I would switch off throughout the week of Chicken stir fry with some rice, chicken mixed with advocado and frozen veggies, pork chop and veggies, fish filet and veggies. Sometimes Mac and cheese with alot of chicken in there, so a half box of mac and cheese with alot of chicken. Pasta every couple weeks. That was my average diet last year when I lost weight however since new apartment my roommate eats almost exclusively frozen type things/frozen pizzas etc. Which is bad but i had missed and started getting into bad lazy habits last couple months.

Holy **** did you really eat 700 cal of cereal, 1000 cal for breakfast?

Edit: ok I read the whole thing. Sheesh.

The thing about the yogurt you're eating now is that it's basically not a good food for dieting. It's a lot of sugar, low protein, not filling or satisfying.

Saturday went out- 3,689
Sunday- 2660

Both ****ty. I'm really disappointed by my first week. Heres a little recap.

Starting- 225.0 lbs 28.1% BF
Week 1- 223.1 lbs 27.1% BF

I lost a couple lbs however last sunday I was really hungover and ate/drank alot of water so I think may have been a bit bloated from that, because rest of the week I was around 221-223.

Goal Weekly Calories- 14000
Actual Weekly Calories- 19,632. Thats almost 2 pounds difference in Calories.

My leaks are def the processed/frozen foods and bread. I used almost all of those up so this week I wont have the choice to eat them even if I want to. When I go shopping tonight I'm going to work on not getting so much of those.

I don't want to recommend not eating any waffles, so instead I'm going to say build all of your meal planning around making sure to get waffles in from time to time - that way you can make it from waffle to waffle.

Also, don't waffle around - plan your meals and stick to it!

ahhaha this made me laugh ..

I actually can't even remember the last time I had waffles. I lived in Belgium for along time and am a belgian citizen, but am at college in america where I got the nickname waffles

I waffled yesterday and they were delicious. Made one waffle extra crispy and reminded me of Belgium vendor waffles.

Well, if eating too many waffles isn't the issue I still probably advise planning your week/day around waffles - give you something to look forward to and pass up all the other trash you may be accidentally eating.

Tracking calories is first step though - now there ain't nothing to it but to do it!

Been to belgium?

I'm eating a ton of trash as can be seen by just my couple posts, I need to stop being a lazy **** and cook. But honestly I'm not sure what all to eat. I need to go to the grocery store today, other than the switch to greek yogurt any other suggestions? Any experience with quinoa?

So I got to the grocery store and think I did pretty well. Only downside being it was the co-op and I spent like $70.

By far healthiest shopping trip I've ever made.

3-4 cups of quinoa, 3 peppers, 6 tomatoes, a cucumber, 3 little zuchinis, feta cheese, 4% cottage cheese, honey greek yogurt, olives, salsa, bananas, eggs, garlic, veggie burgers, spaghetti squash, eggs, 2 pounds of turkey breast, 1 pound of tilapia.

Pretty successful if i do say so myself .

Today I ate really well

It was the fullest I've been in the past week, and it was probably the least amount of calories eaten. I guess really goes to say about not going crazy on things like bread and frozen crap. To finish dinner really had to stuff I did, I was packed. Luckily it was delcicious.

Quinoa with tuna, cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, feta. MEasured it all out and ate 1/3 with rest in 2 equal containers for leftovers.

Protein pancake was interesting. One scoop protein powder, pb, 2 eggs and a banana. Fried it up like a pancake, a little dry but interesting.

Hopefully I can do better this week. I am pretty motivated .

Weekly goal-14000 calories. Lets GOOOOOO!

I've been losing weight since the end of June when I started a new training program for a marathon I will be running in January. I was eating better but still feeling like I wasn't doing it right with oatmeal/raisins/soy milk, fruit with homemade yogurt, and peanut butter on whole wheat toast in the morning, then soup/salad lunches, and nothing or a small bowl of fruit in the evening. Since September I've been trying the JJ Virgin diet about eliminating 7 foods from my diet; no glutens, dairy, eggs, soy, corn, sugar, or peanuts in any foods I eat. I weighed 170-175 at a height of a little over 5' 8". When I started the diet I was still regularly 155-160. This morning I weighed in under 145.

I'm sleeping better, not feeling like a nap is needed every afternoon, and my running is much easier and faster. Running was still a chore and labored before the diet.

I've had to give up a lot of foods I love to eat but I haven't had any cravings for them. I keep a container of chopped up fresh fruits in the refrigerator and a container of toasted almonds (not roasted with oil and salt) available for snacking. Now when I hit a point where I would have normally eaten candy or some kind of sweet I get a craving for those. I also keep a package of dates and prunes handy. I never liked them and until this year I had never eaten a prune in my life (49 years old) but for some reason they both taste great to me now. Maybe because of the lack of sugars in my diet.

I really wasn't trying to drop so much weight, it has just kind of happened, and I have been eating a lot of food. Just very few empty calories. One glass of red wine each night. I've gone from a 32 waist that was a snug/tight fit in jeans and shorts to under a 30 waist that I need a belt to hold my pants up. I was 155 when I was a senior in high school with a 30 waist many years ago.

Anyway, you may think you are eating right by counting calories and choosing low fat alternatives but you might find some success in choosing different foods. I haven't looked at my calorie count or fat count at any time and if anything I think I eat more at lunch than I am supposed to.

Good luck.

A few thoughts-

Tilapia is the nut low. Get better fish with more omega 3s. Try to eat local and in season. Better still, take up fishing.

Why boca burgers? Meat is good. Grind up that turkey breast and make burgers with that.

What are you using te peppers for? Females are best raw, males best for cooking. Males have three lobes, females have 4.

Bananas are waaaaaaay green. Should be ripe by Christmas.

What is the red stuff in the jar? Salsa? Learn to make fresh pico de gallo. You have most of the ingredients already, just need cilantro (coriander leaves) and white onion.

Looks good. Except for the tilapia.

While Tilapia may not be a great fish when comparing it against something like wild caught salmon it is easy to find, cheap and a lot better than whatever else he was probably buying before. If OP likes the Tilapia stick with it, but as crashjr said do try more kinds of fish as well.

Yeah no need for veggie burgers either and I would read the label of ingredients to find out if they are really healthy. If you can get grass fed beef or bison those are both very healthy. Turkey burgers are cheap and low calorie as well. Overall a great effort and very healthy shopping trip.

Also, mind blown on the peppers thing, i never knew they were different.

I didn't know what fish to buy and was cheapest at the overpriced store I was at. I never bought fish as at home we have probably 50+ lbs of catfish in the freezer and alot of walleye/perch/crappies. But now in new place so don't know the fishing places that much and don't have people to go with. Also too cold to comfortably fish, but not cold enough to ice fish yet. Been right around freezing. Maybe try to find some buddies for ice fishing, know a couple guys from class I'd just met who get monster perch during the winter. (fb stalking)

Boca burgers because I randomly ate some when at home this summer. I also like the frozen chicken patties for a snack but figured the veggie ones would be better for me.

Peppers for stir frys, omelettes etc. Never knew about the male/female thing, not even sure which ones i got i'll have to go check this.

Got really green bananas because i still had 2-3 left (one a day). I like them lightly green anyways so figured by time I finished the ones I had they'd be where I like them.

Yeah its just normal salsa. My brother reccomended it as a general sauce as almost no calories. He lost alot of weight and reccomended it. I 'll try to look up a recipe for pico stuff, never heard of that but I love salsa.

Thanks for the critiquing, i appreciate it

I'm not a picky eater whatsoever, I will try almost anything and they only things I don't like is pepper (like ground table pepper, I don't use pepper on anything whatsoever) and salmon. But I love almost all other sea food, although usually only fish I'd ever cooked with was fish we'd caught so I don't know what to buy at the store. Also maybe should add in some shrimp and stuff (although pricy)

Wow, on that shopping trip - looks very ambitious for someone who I assume is like "cooking? hmmmm....how that work?"

Maybe I've just read too much of YTF's log where he allegedly can barely eat fruit or vegetables b/c they are the devil or something.

Btw, boca burgers are delicious but no harm in getting some more of dat meat next time as well.

I'm not quite that cooking retarted. Know how to make quite alot of things but alot of them are not that good for you, kinda home cooking family recipes. Between me, best friend I lived with in Belgium and our 2 gfs, someone would cook a meal prob 6 days of the week for all of us, maybe eat out or something like a frozen pizza once a week at most. Those things weren't a big deal when I was super active. Playing basketball 2-3 hours a day, every day of the week and lifting every day of the week. Could eat alot more than now when I can't be quite as active.

I have to find some new activities, honestly never did any real workouts my life other than playing sports, and over the past year or so lifting on and off. I was thinking about trying out the rock climbing wall at school and learning about that. Seems like could be a good place to meet some people and do some stuff. when summer comes around will probably try to do alot more out door camping/hiking,kayaking, fishing things... was thinking about trying mountain biking. This winter was also thinking about getting a season pass at the tiny local ski hill. Snwoboarding would be good exercise if i could do it regularly (only about 10 mins away) but I'll have to see how my knee will handle that.

Today I had wings and a couple beers with buddies at the bar. Not the best I know, but in a new place. I'm older in school, its weird to be in america, don't necessairly feel like i fit in in wisconsin, + with all this extra weight just dont feel as self confident and outgoing like i had been my whole life. Also dealing with depression so all of that has ended up with me sitting around the apartment alot. So an opportunity to get out is huge for me and I couldn't pass it up. Considering I think I didn't do too bad, didn't go crazy and binge like I did a couple times last week. 12 wings again. When I used to go for 18 or even 24.
