Re: Crash's road to recovery from IBS and obesity

Update inspired by ytf's posting:

I've fallen on and off the exercise wagon in fits and starts over the last year. In early April I had an ear infection that led to a ruptured eardrum. It still hurts, and I guess I got a bit depressed over it because I had bought a new (smaller!) dive suit and haven't had the ability to get it wet yet. I was really looking forward to the season too. Bleh. I also get seasick very easily now with my equilibrium all f-ed up, so I haven't been spending time on the water.

Anyway, I had a major flareup of IBS after being good for almost a year, which has coincided with the ear thing. My GP thinks it might be worse now, or might be ulcerative colitis, given the severe pain and copious amounts of blood. Woe is me and all that. I did another round of antibiotics, another round of prednisone, back on the bentyl, and have upcoming appointments with my gastro and an ENT. I'm not flaring now, but that was a miserable 5 weeks.

I'm still following the fodmap diet. I hope to get answers soon, but I might just have to live with occasional debilitating flare-ups despite it all. Sigh.

I have been thinking about it recently funny enough. I just mentioned it to my wife this past weekend. It has to be wilderness backpacking. I don't trust myself to be in a popular state park more than a few hundred yards from a toilet.

Re: Crash's road to recovery from IBS and obesity

My fiance has been dealing with stomach issues for the last couple years. He's finally had the tubes (up both ends) and is about to have a pill cam shortly. They've discovered gall stones on sonogram, but they weren't there the next time. They think it may be beginning stages of Chrone's
Digestive issues are the worst of all time, and I'm sorry you've had to deal with it. :/

I hope your fiance figures out what is wrong. I wouldn't wish crohn's on anyone.

Re: Crash's road to recovery from IBS and obesity

I have been thinking of regularly posting meals that I make, heavy on photographs like my cooking project threads I've done in the lounge.

I'd like feedback, constructive criticism, and other people participating with their own recipes, photos, etc., looking for feedback.

Because of my restrictive diet, I don't figure the general cooking threads are appropriate - but maybe? Maybe this thread is the best place to do it, but I want others to feel free to participate. It also is a departure from the regular H&F style, but maybe that is ok.

Maybe a separate thread in H&F? A food forum or sub-forum would be ideal, but I don't think there is anything like that at 2+2.

This was dinner last night:

I had smoked goat shoulder and oven roasted fingerling potatoes.

Dry rub heavy on the paprika:

In the drum smoker. I used alder chips for the smoke.

Holding at 200 F for 3.5 hours.

Shooting for 155, I overshot a little but that is ok.

Potatoes, olive oil, sage and thyme that I picked up at the farmer's market.

I chopped the sage and stripped the thyme, added 1 Tbsp of olive oil, salt, and mixed.

My plate, with a red lettuce, spinach, alfalfa sprout and cucumber salad dressed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar:

I have Vicodin for the ear but I don't really like taking it. I'll ask about Valium.

This is the kind of stuff that would make me fat. I considered this a single serving container. 1,000 calorie single serving.

Thanks Gizmo

Question:

My macro intake is never as recommended because I avoid so many types of carbohydrates. Today is typical:

Is this anything I should be concerned about?

Also, no pics tonight, just leftovers. Tomorrow will be pork loin and quinoa with tomatillo salsa.
