Re: cobrastatus' log

i think if trained equally it is very uncommon. looked at rip's charts to check and those make the split seem bat**** insane, which i don't think it is. i do think a lot of guys who "are pullers" just prioritize pulling.

Some sort of aberrant anthropometry could partially explain it at least? E.g. "pullers" who are tall with long limbs (not good for squats) with extra long arms (good for DLs).

Re: cobrastatus' log

I had a friend like that, who was 6'2 with an absurd reach, but I am decidedly not one of those people. I have pretty short stubby arms, and I'm only 5'9. I am pretty stumped as to the origin of this huge divide between my squat and DL. One explanation, though, is that when I did strongman from 2007-2009, I stopped regular squats. I only did banded box squats twice a week, but I still trained the **** out of DL since it was quite often an event for reps or maximal strength in strongman. I picked up squatting again in September 2010 for a few months when I dabbled in Crossfit Football, stopped, and then started squatting again weekly in January, continuously. In that time my squat has gone from 440 to ~485 lbs.

So perhaps, if I keep up with the current training volume, I will have a mid 500 squat sometime by this time next year?

also, slight brag, I am within touching distance of elite in every lift except the clean, and elite in DL obv
Thanks for posting that, I needed the ego boost after a ****ty week of squatting.

Those charts refer to low bar squats and cobra is high bar squatting (and has recently just begun high bar squatting).

hmm. for some reason i thought he was listing old PRs (low bar) and that he then switched to high bar. makes sense.

Re: cobrastatus' log

Right now, I'm pretty much herping and derping my way through the Oly lift programming. I have read practical programming for strength training, and I was thinking of throwing together something from the intermediate or advanced chapter together to address the programming of oly lifts (hormonal fluctuation model, most likely). Or, modifying Wendler's program to 3/2/1 and not going past 3 reps. Thoughts?

Re: cobrastatus' log

Snatch: I have to learn how to do this. I am pitifully bad at it. Any pointers/videos/resources for someone learning on their own?

bar x 5
bar x 5
95 x 3
135 x 3
165 x 3
185 x 0

I don't know how to do the second pull and my elbows stay extended almost the whole time, I don't know if that's wrong or not, but it feels wrong.

OHP 5-3-1 week 3

warmup 95x5

160 lbs x 5
180 lbs x 5
205 x 3 (+2)

close grip incline

275 x 3
240 x 5

complex of dips (BW+85 lbs)/face pulls (110 lbs)

3x8/3x10
