In all the uspa meets I've been in they've used Texas dead lift bars. They are very nice after you get used to them. The first time I used one the bend of it threw me off. I think okies bend even more

Thanks man, I appreciate that. I was just looking at the white board and you're quite the beast yourself, especially at your bw.

(I looked away after each lift was done to avoid seeing the lights, so I dunno the answer)
I'll withhold the answer for now to see if someone can figure it out.

I guess I'm used to the one(s) they use here in MN - I love whatever bar it is and am considering buying one. The deep knurling, the placement of the knurling and the flex in the bar suit my style perfectly.

nice work.

i think you're better off training with a stiffer bar than a DL bar. DL bars make the lift significantly easier.

I've considered that. Its probably the main reason I haven't already bought one.

The reason I'm reconsidering getting one is because its similar to what's used in the meets, and I do a few things differently when I train due to the placement of the knurling on my Ivanko bar. It rips the **** out of my legs if I dont wear neoprene calf & knee sleeves. That affects the bar path when I train. I'm now thinking as long as the meets I'm lifting in use this kind of bar, I don't see why using one in training would be detrimental.

Thanks! It's been a while though. Itching hard to get back in the game. One day...

if the cost isn't a big deal i'd get one, but i wouldn't train DL with it exclusively. I'd work it in around meets. It makes breaking the floor way too easy. i generally don't like that "deadlift bars" even exist.

Do it smart & slowly and you'll come back from the back issue better than ever.

Cost isnt a big deal. That's something to think about.

My 7 good lifts^.

I got 3 white lights on 6 of the 7 and 2/3 white lights on the other. See if you can tell which lift I got a red light and why (plz look at the lifts, not the lights).
Very nice work.

I don't know much about lifting, but to answer your question, I'm going to guess the heavy squat because that's the only one that looked hard for you. But that's just a guess. I have no idea why. Depth looked good.

Maybe a ridiculous idea, but couldn't you put tape on the bar where it contacts your legs? A few years ago I put pre-wrap and tape on a bar at our HS for my players to make it easier on their legs. Being the huge vag I am I like it too.

I looked for depth, all perfect. I looked for bar velocity, 100% positive in all lifts. I looked for being early on commands, perfect. I looked for ass coming up, nope. I looked for hitching, nope. Agreed with Melkerson on the default guess, but I can't say why either.

Thanks!

It wasn't the heavy squat.

Well, that would not be the same as a smooth bar, but it would be better than dragging a cheese grater against the legs.

Forgot to mention this - there was a massive bench only dude (Robert Vick) at the meet today. He attempted & failed 382.5 three times. That's KGs. 843 lbs. Yes, he wore a bench shirt, and yes he failed, but he was close to getting it. Pretty amazing to see someone move that much weight, but I wish he would have locked out one of them. Apparently he's benched 909 in competition before. I bet he was going to go for 1000 today, but it wasnt his best day.

Super solid lifts, love your technique. Think you had 10 more kgs in you on the DL.

I think you might be right. Somewhere ~10 seems right imo.

Do you plan on doing any more comps this year? 500# squat is looming in the not so distant future.

yeah, Weasel & I are going to the USPA nationals in Vegas in July. I'm tentatively planning on the IPL worlds in Vegas in November as well.

idk man, 500 squat seems a long ways away right now. That 457 was hard. 550 DL seems a lot closer, and I think I might have gotten that yesterday if had I tried.

Awesome lifting Cha. Congrats.

As for the lone red light...I don't think it was any of the DL's. They all looked great and I definitely think you had at least 20# more in you. The bench looked good as well and you already hit the buzzer on the heavy squat so I'm going to guess the 1st squat. It looked like it might have been just a tad high compared to your other 2 squats.

i think the lone red light was on the bench, on the nittiest of calls. maybe some elbow break at the lockout.

Did you get a red light on the 2nd squat for one side of the bar kind of dropping down near lock out?

My vote is 1st bench not pausing long enough. Didn't have sound on though so couldn't hear the commands.

Really awesome lifts. 1300 here you come!

Thanks Mojo!

You win the prize - the bald guy in the blue shirt on the right side of the picture red lighted my first squat. He said it was high. You can see by his reaction that he was not impressed with that lift. He liked the other two squats though. That's James "Priest" Burdette. He has high standards as a judge. He's a great bench presser. This is him benching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQMn40gOQoo

I asked "Priest" if he had advice for my bench press. He says "You do need to work on speed out of the bottom of your bench. It should be explosive on all lifts, not just the light stuff."

I'm thinking about doing less reverse band work and more standard bench pressing. I've avoided that because I think a lot of heavy, high volume stuff could be hard on the shoulders. My shoulders have been great for a while. I think my form might be good enough and easy enough on the shoulders now for me to ween myself off of that stuff so I can do more standard bench work safely.

I should go back and look at what I was doing when I was making gains on the bench too. I'm thinking I was doing more floor pressing.
