I think it depends and/or do both. I'm not sure you need to rock but contract/relax "pulsing" is a good thing to do when doing mobility/stretch stuff.

here is a good couch stretch video:

Starts at about 2:15. The first two minutes is Starrett talking about hip extension while skateboarding in the sun. There is also a bonus coconut/rum "paleo treat" extra bonus at the end. Man, I know why this guy pissed me off to start with, but now he just seems like a legend - who randomly throws stuff like that into a video about mobilization?

I saved both of these posts for future reference, thanks a lot guys.

For my insurance to cover anything, it needs to be referred from my school's health center. So it's going to be quite a process of going to lots of different people to get what I want. Talked with my parents as well, they said go for whatever pretty much, but they think I should go see a standard orthopedist first just to rule out more serious stuff like anything disc-related for example. I'm not opposed to this, and I'm curious to see what different people will say anyway. So I'll start the journey tomorrow by dropping by the health center, hopefully good things will follow. Thanks once again. I'll be logging things with lots of detail in my log if you're ever curious, but I'll also be sure to let you know how things go on a bigger picture.

Seeing the orthopedist first, then the manual therapist should give you an idea of how qualified the manual therapist is - they should perform similar tests as the ortho did to see what's wrong. There's a better chance than not that the ortho does not clearly know what ART is and wont give you a referral to see an ART provider. If you knew the ART provider was good, you could skip the ortho, but you dont know yet, so I think your parents are right.

Just dont agree to surgery until you get more opinions if that's what the ortho suggests - some of them just want to do as many surgeries as possible to make big $$. I had major surgery on my right shoulder by one of those guys. If I had known then what I know now, there's no way I ever would have had that surgery and my life would have been better over the ~15 years following that surgery.

Get the red voodoo bands imo.

You're welcome to work out here sometime if you're in the area.

chaos pushups from the other day:

I like these a lot. The only problem so far is they are a bit hard on my wrists, but wearing wraps seems to diminish that problem greatly.

Yeah, watch out for any manual therapists who claim they need to either do a prostate exam or to check for inguinal hernias/testicular cancer. They probably aren't what you are looking for!

I think that has been asked before and the answer was yes.

yeah, most of them. I dont wear a singlet for deloads or light bench day. I like the feel of it for the heavy stuff. Let me know when you think you might want to make the trip - I can help with that stuff, especially the bench.

Thanks - I definitely need to work on my back squat. It feels fairly strong, but my form still leaves something to be desired - still a little good morning on the heavy ones and still not quite as solid as I want. The safety bar squats seem pretty solid. My DL, bench & RDL feel a little weak right now. I didnt post a bench video because there's nothing new to see & I think I know what I need to do.

I couldn't do that stretch. I couldn't get my non-wall leg/foot where it needed to be. Just not very flexible.

Seems very similar to my issues with the squat. I thought it was a bit more pronounced at the lower weights in that video.

Yugo had similar comments, but the weird thing is, I didnt feel like any of them were bad except for the last rep at 390. I think something got loose on that last one. On the others, my form is just not very good.

Where does that little forward/back motion of the bar come from on your Deadlifts?

Your music selection rocks. Do you throw on an album, or do you have any genre or full shuffle system? I've always been an album person myself, especially for Tool.

I noticed you don't go down as far as I do when I RDL (and you also use way more weight ). Do you feel the stretch in your hamstrings the way you do them, or is that not necessary?

Cha dicks around switching up music all the time. Tbf he's pretty efficient at it. But sometimes I stifle a laugh when he's queuing up a different Tool song for a warmup set. Of course, he stifles laughs when he sees my warmup set weight when I throw on 2.5s and/or microplates. So the joke is really on me.

he has an iPod or whatever hooked up to speakers fwiw. I assume he just has a bunch of full albums on there and switches between them.
