I agree with pretty much everything dtemp said.
Your back pain probably comes from lifting with bad form, like bending at your back, not using legs, etc. Just a guess.
Also, you shouldn't do core strengthening everyday as your abdominal muscles are the same as any other muscle group. They don't grow when they are being worked, they grow on rest days. Obv this is harder to do with your core muscles as the previous poster mentioned you use your core muscles all the time throughout the day, especially at a job where you lift things.
Pretty much do what dtemp said and treat abs as any other muscle group. Also know that you will good core workout just doing squats, etc., so plan workouts accordingly to leave for enough rest.
