I do crossfit 3x-4x per week and I get really sore. Sometimes I'm too sore to do the final workout. It's always my legs that get sore so someone suggested that I do an ice bath after I work out. I'm just worried that putting my cojones in ice-cold water might do damage to them.

How long can I do an ice bath without freezing my cojones and doing irreparable damage to them?

EDIT: I have no questions about whether crossfit is a good workout program or not. This is about icebaths and balls

Contrast baths/showers imo. And Crossfit sucks, as another thread on the front page here proves conclusively.

Unless your goal is "do CrossGhey", there is almost assuredly a better means to the end. CrossGhey as defined as doing mainsite WODs, but if you determine CrossGheyness via Glassman-esque ways, everyone does CrossGhey.

Anyway, contrast baths are where you switch hot/cold. Its really painful. Enjoy.

If you have access to a hot tub and an ice bath then contrast bathing is awesome and is helpful for recovery.

If you try to replicate the effect using your shower or tub at home then you're wasting your time, although I've found the cold really snaps me out of any post workout haze.

I wouldn't worry much about fertility unless you're going to be trying very soon. You'd probably have to be too stupid to get laid to do permanent damage in an ice bath.

anyone have any good articles on contrast bathing? i always flip the shower cold for 30 seconds or a minute before i get out but mostly just cuz i like the way it feels.

I actually heard ice baths were a way to increase fertility, as sperm develop better at lower temperatures, hence the evolution of the external hanging ballsack.

I was on a trip with a bunch of people back in HS and one girl kept going back and forth between the hot tub and pool and went into shock and had to be taken to the hospital.
