Bench:

215x5x4 Hmm. this was kinda hard and my fifth reps were all grinders. Need to get better at this weight before moving up to 220. Excited to get close to 225 again at least!

HBBS triples

335x3x5 All felt pretty good but the 4th and 5th sets were pretty hard. Full breath between each reps, whereas on the first 3 sets I was able to pound out the first 2 reps no problem, only resetting with a big breath to finish off the set.

Lots of stretching/rolling before and after this stuff. It was great. I have discovered how incredibly tight my left IT band is recently, so I spent a lot of time rolling it today and my squats felt great. No left knee issues at all! Will definitely be keeping this up.

Deadlift:

Was planning to work up to a heavy-ish 1x5 but my glutes were just not having it today. I don't get it. Ended up doing a fair number of reps at 355 regardless.

1 clean + 1 fs + 1 push press + 1 jerk:

Was pretty tired after the deadlifting. Did a handful of reps at 185 and then 195 but then finally failed one and called it quits.

Afterwards went to a new texas bbq place in town. Pretty good bbq, but easily the best brussel sprouts ever

Those sprouts look awesome. Such a great food that I hated as a kid but love now. Don't find em on menus often around here, even at a bbq joint, unfortunately.

Yeah, agreed. These were tossed in olive oil, salt and lemon juice before being cooked and topped w/ parmesan cheese. so good

Just came up with this on the fly to try and get some more reps overhead. started at 175 but worked up to 185 fairly quickly. I think I did 10 sets total. maybe even a couple at 190.

Front Squats:

haven't done them in ages with real weight, so I just worked up (fairly slow) to 225x5x5 beltless. Not too hard but not real easy either.

The heavy set was harder than I had hoped for. Hips have been feeling weird and I feel like I'm losing a lot of power somewhere in my squat. I've noticed that at the bottom of my squat my right hip is higher than my left, which is probably exactly related to my left knee feeling funny/tight sometimes. Also related is odd glute pain in my left side on the way up during squats.

Assuming the problem stems from a tight right hip, what should I be doing to even things out? I already do a lot of couch stretch type things where I *try* to stretch out my anterior right hip a lot, but perhaps that's not the issue. Maybe I need to be lax balling my right hip flexor or glute or something. Maybe I need to work on better hamstring mobility on my right side. I originally thought all of this was related to my left side, but now I'm not so sure.

prob just getting old. take me now, jesus.

Didn't want to do much squatting as my quads were pretty sore from the other day's squats, so I thought this would be a nice alternative. I've also done it before and couldn't get past 185, so I was hoping to crush that today.

Since I was feeling good, I went for a few singles. I tried to full clean it the first few times but when I got to 225 it was too taxing so I went to power. Overall, I'd say these are horrible! I was tired by this point, sure, but my overhead position is just horrible.

Hit 205 a few times and moved up to 215 but didn't record. It felt better (than what I got on film) so I moved up to 225.



bonus 205 attempt: girl in back doesn't notice I'm filming. she demanded that I show her how stupid she looked afterwards since she was dancing and didn't realize. Even told me to tag her if I post it anywhere. She's an aspiring fitness model but doesn't really have a chance imo. She hasn't made like any progress in the last year, but whatever, still has a great ass.





Deadlifting:

I've been stretching/rolling my anterior hips on the right side a little more so I was hoping this would feel a little better. It did!!

You actually think my form is improving? wrt my jerk: I feel like when the weight goes up my form has stayed the same. I realllllly need to get better at getting UNDER the weight. The bar is going plenty high

Was waiting on food to come out of the oven before I went to the gym, so I spent a good 40 mins rolling my lats, sub scap and posterior shoulders today. Best pain ever. There's a spot in my armpit region on the posterior side that is pure agony. Like, when the lax ball finally makes it's way into that nook, I instantly tense up in the most pain I've ever felt in my life, but it does subside over time. Terrifying how much that hurts though, lol.

Oh, I thought maybe I mentioned it but maybe I didn't. I took December off bc I knew that I wouldn't be able to go a handful of times with the holidays and stuff, so I am just doing my own programming right now. I kinda like it.

Honestly, not sure I'm going to go back in January or not, mostly since I'm taking a week off to go skiing, but also just bc I'm liking doing my own thing so much.
