I'm not even sure this is HBO's fault. The source material for book 5 ****ing SUCKED, and book 4 was mediocore; the show was unequivocally better even if it wasn't stellar. Maybe the same will happen with books 6 and 7 when they're released.

I sure hope there's heavy handed SJWisms and topical gender pronoun oppression references though! In fact if there's not I'll be writing some very angry blogposts.

loco,

How long would you like me to ban BGP so you remain unspoiled about a episodes of an incredibly popular TV show that have already been released?
08-22-2017 , 06:05 AM
Was intentionally very vague and left out any spoilers from the last two episodes. I even tried to leave out spoilers for Renton, although I guess it's possible that at this point "nothing happens ever" is a spoiler for bookreaders.

Please do a reverse-great-firewall aka IP ban all of China imo. 2p2 mods, use your powers!

We could call it the great firewall!

It's not happening. GRRM clearly just told them the bare basics and D&D are ****ing clueless. The season so far has been a total waste, and did a 100% Usual Suspects. Oh we spent how many years showing how Cersei is ruining everything and Dany is building this grand coalition? Ok well let's forget about that, just send all of Dany's army off to die so that we can build suspense between Cersei and Dany in order to have an epic showdown. Except Dany still has dragons and no one in their right mind should think that Cersei has a chance of beating Dany. Spent seriously 5 episodes running in circles to end up right where we started the season: Dany is here and she can wreck Cersei at any moment but she isn't going to because... something.

It's dumb.
Spoiler:

Cliffs: lol GoT.

I don't think Dany not attacking King's Landing with dragons is the worst part of this season, she would likely (rightfully) be viewed by the populace as the mad king's heir and get a ton of resistance for her Make Westeros Great Again plan. Splitting up their forces is still loltastic of course.

The last episode was totally unforgivable with the time travelling though. Super ****ing sloppy writing. I was slightly invested up until now (though increasingly less with each episode), but now I couldn't give a **** who dies going forwards. Immortal super swimmer and occasional strongman (watch him haul waterlogged fur cloaks from the bottom of a freezing lake! watch him wrestle white walkers underwater with his bare hands!) Jon Snow is also a complete joke by now.

Last thing: why didn't Dany just go ape**** on the head honcho white walkers with her three dragons? Easy fly-by with fire to kill them all, end of story, whoops.

A buddy just gave me the first GoT book, now completely hooked.. about 7 years behind everyone else.

Ozark sucks. For anyone thinking about watching it.. don't.

I don't think I'd say Ozark sucked. That might be a little harsh. It was solid filler TV. Just nothing spectacular.

The books are great imo. Wish I could forget and start over with a blank slate.

+1. My plan was to just be a book reader, but eventually it became so popular I realized that it would be impossible to avoid spoilers, so I caved and started watching. It's definitely going to ruin the experience of reading 6&7.
08-24-2017 , 01:17 AM
Ideally I would like to just read the books as well, but it's such a huge part of our culture now that it's probably impossible to stay spoiler free for the 20+ years it will take to complete.

Just look at "hold the door"

To date I feel like I've not been spoiled on any major plotlines though. I think that some stuff is now bound to be spoiled, but at the same time things will be so different in the books that it might not matter that much.

Ozark started off promising then turned bad. Ending was awful.

Thanks. My resolve to continue abstaining from the show was weakening.

GOT not spoilers really but crazy fan theories/speculation
Spoiler:
If Bran is really the night king or Cersei makes some crazy kind of pact/alliance with the Night King, this could be really cool and good. If Dany and Jon team up to kill the white walkers/night king and then burn cersei but Jon dies after impregnating Dany and that's GRRM's definition of a "bittersweet ending" I'd be disappointed. It's definitely heading toward "Dany and her family reign for 1000 years and everything is peaceful b/c feminism", but I still have some faith in GRRM to give us an interesting and unforseen twist.

Article on Bran=Night King theory
http://nerdist.com/bran-night-king-g...hrones-theory/

From the linked reddit thread cliffs: "When the three-eyed raven says "You will never walk again, but you will fly" he means through time, and not only warging a dragon like many fans believe. There was a reason Jojen Reed (who also had the greensight and knew even more things about it than Bran) did not become the three-eyed raven himself. The reason is that Bran is even more powerful than both Jojen and the three-eyed raven (Brynden Rivers) in the way that he has both greensight and the ability to warg. With this combination Bran is even able to affect the past by warging into Wyllis, and eventually making him become Hodor, which proves "the ink is dry". He also gains his fathers attention outside the tower of joy, and even gets touched by the Night king in one of his greensights. Bran believes he is eventually (with more knowledge) going to be able to rewrite history and that's why he decides to go back and stop the Night king several times, but fails every time, ending up fulfilling the timeline-circle and taking the identity of the Night king himself."

"Bran’s ability to influence the past certainly feels like a major issue that will come into play again, but would this story really end with everything being a timeloop? The Three-eyed Raven did say the “ink is dry” on the past despite the past not being as concrete as we think, so that comment would fit this theory, but it would also feel like a letdown since it means no one had any freewill in the story"

They've already done time traveling
08-24-2017 , 08:48 AM
the books are horrid trash. lol u all.
08-24-2017 , 09:18 AM
I have the first one downloaded on my phone for the last year or so, and have subsequently had a few hundred hours of airport/flight time in which I could have read it had it grabbed my interest. I've gotten through 100 pages (maybe). Seems unlikely I'm going to keep going at this point.
08-24-2017 , 09:22 AM
first one sorta grabbed my interest and I read it on planes and in airports during my World Cup travels. Horrible writing but intriguing enough story.

Second one I got through a couple chapters and decided enough of that.
08-24-2017 , 09:23 AM
lol no
08-24-2017 , 09:25 AM
I did a very light reading of the books supplemented with occasional wiki research and of course watching the shows, enjoyable overall but maybe less so now that everything's already done in the show.
08-24-2017 , 09:31 AM
he's a horrible, horrible writer.

I've had others tell me among fantasy writers, he's one of the best, which makes me just lol fantasy.
08-24-2017 , 09:36 AM
I can respect the fact that he's mapped out twelve thousand years of history or whatever it is within this world he's built without the desire to immerse myself in it for the amount of time that would be required to really get it -- had I discovered the books as a teenager, there probably would have been a better chance, but I just don't have the time or inclination now.

Watching the show and listening to Binge Mode for the relevant lolbookreader background is about as far as I'm willing to go at this point.

One "horrible" is enough, but yeah. Also he seriously needs a fakeBusto editor to rein in his loltastically long food/breasts descriptions.

Pretty sure this isn't going to help the magic elf that lives in the forest threads tho.

I like GoT ( books and show!) What a controversy imo! k.

Anyway, what're some good trash fiction books? Doesn't have to be a series, but it's k if it is.

I am trying to read Infinite Jest for the third attempt and I see why I always stopped. Too erudite for my pleb tastes. What's the Miller High Life (2.25/5) of books?

Re: TV
Rewatching Arrested Dev S1 and Westworld S1, both worth it!

The second episode of Arrested Development is probably the best episode of a comedy show of all time*.

* Disclaimer: I have not watched every comedy show of all time.
