You strong. Though the foot issue is pretty big (weight positioning). Take off those ridiculous ass shoes. Barefoot is pro move in your case. Try lifting up your toes as well. Falling forward is ridiculously huge form error.

9/20/10

weight: 211 with shoes, shirt, shorts on

Went to the gym without much of a plan...wanted to get in some HIIT preferably through basketball drills and wanted to do pullups/chinups. They were playing full court and there was a long wait to get on, so I didn't bother to play. Instead I just did a bunch of random cardio with sets of pullups in between(note: whenever I say "pullups" in my log, I don't clarify between pullups, chinups, or doing them with palms facing each other....I usually mix things up each set even if I don't specify). Heres what i ended up doing:

10 minutes foam rolling/stretching(at house before going to gym)
10 pullups
5 minutes on rower level 10, did 201 reps
10 pullups
static stretching
6 pullups(ugh, wtf happened here)
5 minutes of stationary basketball dribbling drills
light squats: 10x135, working on form and things that were mentioned ITT
8 pullups
jump rope, 200 reps alternating between different single and double legged jumps, done as quickly as possible
8 pullups

My hamstrings were noticeably sore from Saturday's lift when doing the row machine, which is why I did static stretching afterwards. Must've been a bit fatigued on 3rd set of pullups, as I should easily beat 6 reps. My calluses were really bothering me too...coming close to popping, no huge pain, but definitely noticeable as I'm doing my sets. The rower, basketball dribbling drills, and jumping rope were all fairly intense, so even though I didn't have much of a play for the day I am still fairly pleased with what I ended up doing.

Food:

Bowl of quaker oats
omelet: 6 eggs, 4 slices of bacon, red peppers, spinach, onions, lots of cheese
7 pork chops
large glass of milk + 1.5 scoops of protein

I concentrated on "lifting up my toes" when doing 10x135 yesterday...I think that helped a lot.

I don't think 24hr fitness likes me lifting barefoot. I wouldn't mind just buying a pair of weightlifting shoes. Any recommendations? Anything under $120 would be fine by me.

most likely full court basketball today, may try to bench afterwards depending on how I feel and if I have a spotter there....maybe I'll just do warmup and then see how many reps of 295 I can get(would be very happy with 3).

KhalynYohrk invited me to go to Broz gym with him on Wednesday...may take him up on that to try to learn to some new lifts, but I may be too fatigued and have to push it to another time. We'll see.

Think I'll make some BBQ chicken breasts for dinner tonight

Re weightlifting shoes:

Just get a pair of chuck taylors or some other hard, flat sole canvas sneaker. I have both sneakers and WL shoes, and have squatted a bunch in both, and I can definitely go heavier in good sneakers as opposed to the weightlifting shoes because sneakers let me use my hamstrings out of the bottom a little bit better.

You can probably get knockoff chucks/JPs/keds for like $10.

I had the opposite experience.

i think chucks aren't that good, they're fine though so if that's what you have use them. Not as solid or stable as a weightlifting shoe. I would think an indoor soccer type shoe would be better than chucks. Anyways, lifting shoes >> chucks.

whats the best way to deal with excessive blisters from deadlifts and pullups? Just pop them ASAP and hopefully they heal before next workout??

get a callous file and grind your hands down before they bunch up too much. then deal with the rest of the torn callouses with tape. I cut them off then sand them down so that they don't peel back while lifting and tear back more skin.

Get a pumice stone for the shower, file callouses down a few days a week. Avoiding callous buildup will limit your chance at tearing.

Full on blisters should hopefully stop as your hands toughen up. Don't (not that it looks like you are) use chalk when doing pullups and avoid pullup bars covered in tape or rubber.

If that still doesn't work for pullups, take an old towel and throw it over the pullups bar to do towel pullups. Added benefit of increased grip work. Plus no issues with tearing/blistering.

Preventing blisters/tearing is best....if you get them you're pretty much SOL untill they heal.

Blisters never stop with sufficient work. That idea is patently ****ing absurd.

I'm sure that little Crossqueer just didn't do enough PUs before he ripped his hands wide open trying to do a set of 100.

I use Chucks for DLs and Do Wins for squatting. Chucks are fine for both if you only want to use one shoe for both. Its better to have a flat soled shoe for DLs. Heels help a bit for squats, but its not entirely necessary.

What you dont want for squats or DLs is a squishy bottom shoe. If that's what you've been using, you'll feel a huge difference right away when you switch.

blisters most certainly do. flappers most certainly do not.

Is your main goal to dunk/be better at basketball? Get your ass to Broz gym asap imo.
