It is true that a 300 game in bowling is far more common today than 25 years ago but for most bowlers of average or lesser skill it represents a major accomplishment.

Last night I was lucky enough to achieve what had eluded me for an on again off again lifetime of bowling. If anyone else in the forum has bowled a 300 please share your experience as well.

I did once, but I bowl 15 frames.

Congrats

What is your average score?
How often do you bowl?
What size ball was it?
What type of lane was it?
How many people were watching you?
How nervous did you get during the last frame?
Do you hook it or throw it straight?
Did you get laid because of it?
lefty?
What kind of animation is on the screen after a 300?
Does the ball turn into a wickedly ripped Spartan and kill Persians?

It's tough when you believe round balls are a sign of vanity.

My average is 184 which places me about mid pack in ablility in my league. I bowl once per week in this league. Prior to 2008 I had not bowled in 18 years. I bowled in leagues when I was younger but baseball was my primary sport.

The ball is a 15lb Hammer Black Widow (Red) and the oil pattern was a standard house shot. I throw a medium hook with a ball speed in the low 17 mph range.

In the 10th frame the teams on the lanes to our immediate left and right stopped to watch. There were probably about 30 people directly behind our 2 lanes.

In regards to nervousness I was very calm during the first 8 frames. Nervousness became noticeable during the 9th frame but it was moderate. During the 10th frame I was nervous far beyond anything I have ever experienced in my life, especially during the final shot. For people who have bowled multiple 300's I don't know how they handle it.

As to the last question I was in no condition when I went to my girlfriends house afterward. It took quite a bit of Laphroiag before I even considered retiring to a very restless nights sleep.

It may be ironic that I posted on this forum for years under the name Roy Munson.

Isnt that like a very light ball? When I bowl, which is seldomnly I use like a 12 kg ball or something like that.

What ball weight should I choose if I do zero spin?

Maximum ball weight is 16 lbs. The pro shop where I bowl doesn't have 16 lb balls in inventory and would have to special order one. Since returning to the game I have discovered that today's 15 lb ball has far more power than the 16 lb balls that I used to use 20+ years ago.

What did it feel like when you released the final ball, and saw it rolling towards the target?

How did it feel when you saw the pins fall and you finally hit your 300?

Will you ever do it again?

During the approach and release of the final shot I was so nervous that I felt that I was outside of my body. The only physical sensation that I can recall was being completely fixated on my target.

I pulled the shot and thought that it was going to go into the nose. It crossed over enough to hit high in the 1-2 pocket initially leaving the 6 pin wobbling. After what seemed an eternity a fallen pin that had bounced off of the left wall slowly spun towards the 6 pin, knocking it over just prior to the pinsetter touching it.

Afterward I was in a surreal state of disbelief. While receiving congratulations from my fellow bowlers I honestly felt like I could collapse. This was the second of 3 games and I did not even want to bowl the last game.

Will I ever do it again? I doubt it, but I didn't think that I would do it the first time.

That's a great story. 299 would have been like FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.

Very cool. I think this is one of the things that even people who are not into bowling much or at all would still absolutely love to do at least once in their lives. You must have really been floating on air after that last pin went over.

You likely don't throw the ball 17mph. That's real fast for a medium hook.

300s aren't that hard now-a-days, however a 300 w/ a 185 avg is some sick run good.

Congrats.

Meh, you can still get a patch/ring for a 299 if it's a sanctioned league.

The 17 mph is based on the scoreboard reading. My strike shot varies from 17-17.5 mph. This is faster than most in my league but I am 6 ft 4 in and weigh 225 lbs. To throw slower I would have to make a conscious effort.

My ball hooks more than players that throw a down and in shot but nowhere near as much as the crankers, thumbless and two handed bowlers. I approach from slightly left of center and send the ball out to around the 5 board.

The last game was a raggedy 202. I missed every spare attempt until the 10th frame. I struck in the 2nd and 5th through 9th frames.

Good job, OP. Back when I bowled a copious amount, my highest league game was 284 (Front 10, then big 4). I have bowled a 299 in practice, though. I averaged around 200-210 in my heyday and still, to this day, dream about legitimately wearing a 300 ring. Have you already filled out the paperwork for your ring?

Make sure you get it ASAP. Back in 2000, I won a youth tournament and was promised a jacket with my name and Division 2 Champion. It must still be lost in the mail. Bastards.

Gratz on the 300

- How do you feel about pulling #12, going Brooklyn and tripping the 6?
-Series?
-How man shots were actually good? (obv =<11)
-How would you feel about a stone 9, providing you threw a good 12th shot?

I bowl also, not nearly as much as I did in HS (6 days/week). Haven't had a 3 yet . Someday.....

lol @ 12kg ball........26.4lb bowling ball ahahahahaha

I was embarrassed that the last shot was pulled. My series was 692 190 300 202. Only 9 shots were good, 3 were crossovers. If I had thrown a good 12th shot and left one it wouldn't have bothered me knowing that I was lucky earlier in the game.

I have bowled games in the past where I have buried 12 in the pocket only to end up with various 280 and many 279 games. So I guess it eventually evens out.

Well 299 is my high score. I was bowling in a league at the time, had an average in the low 170s so this was a ridiculously good run for me. Can't say I was too displeased, I mean 300 would be nice but the idea that I should expect a strike every time up is silly, even if I did just get 11 in a row. Although I could tell that last ball wasn't delivered quite right immediately when I released it. Most likely the best game I'll ever bowl, haven't gone bowling in about a year and it's not that fun for me unless I have friends who like to bowl also.

Not even sure what my best game other than that was, probably less than 250.
