Re: 3x3

Yesterday:

CG BP: 115x5; 135x3; 155x3; 165x3; 175x3; 185x3
Front squat: 115x5; 135x3; 155x1; 165x1; 175x1. Back spasm on the way up. @#^%$#. I tried 135 to see how it felt and I decided to call it a day on squats. I tried one set of barbell rows and I didn't feel comfortable doing those either. My back felt OK at work last night. No pain now either so hopefully I'll be good to go tomorrow.
EZ curl: 70x5; 80x3; 90x3; 100x3

Weight: 205

Re: 3x3

Today:

Hammer PD: 90x5; 110x3; 130x3; 150x3; 170x3
Push press: 95x5; 115x3; 135x1; 145x1; 155x1; 165x1; 175x1; 140x8
Ab stuff

Weight: 205. My back didn't feel 100% so I didn't do any rack pulls. It is hard to describe but my lower back just feels weak or fatigued. There isn't really pain but it just doesn't feel right.

Try icing it.. I'm icing anything that doesn't feel 100% nowadays.

I'm not sure this is a problem that ice is good for although I'm ready to try anything right about now. Ice before working out or after? My back does feel a lot better after a really hot shower.

Today:

Front squat: 115x5; 135x3; 155x3; 175x3; 190x3
CG BP: 115x5; 135x3; 155x2; 170x2; 180x2; 190x2
Barbell row: 115x5; 135x3; 155x1; 175x1; 185x1; 150x10
Ab stuff

Weight: 206. Almost stopped squats after my first set but I kept going and it turned out OK. My back feels the worst when I'm sitting at my computer which is where I am right before I go to the gym. I'm on my feet for up to 10 hours a night, 5 nights a week and my back feels fine then. Sit for a couple of hours and there is discomfort. If anybody has any suggestions I'm all ears.

p.s. In before 'new computer chair'.

Re: 3x3

Today:

Push press: 95x5; 115x3; 135x3; 145x3; 155x3; 160x3
1 arm DB row: 50x5; 60x5; 70x5; 80x5
EZ curl: 70x5; 80x3; 90x3; 100x3

Weight: 206. Skipped the rack pulls to give my lower back some rest. Felt a little better today.

Re: 3x3

When I was having low back issues a couple years ago, way before my disc herniation, I had a similar issue. It hurt more sitting than standing. My chiropractor said it was a disc issue - I found out later that two of my discs were degenerative, and one of them herniated last year.

Take it easy imo, and it might be a good idea to get it checked out. Dont do any twisting or bending of the low back, especially when its bearing weight.

The push pressing puts you at some risk. Any ab stuff that makes your low back move at all is probably very bad (situps, crunches, leg raises, anything twisting, etc.). Arching your back & using leg drive while bench pressing is bad/risky.

Re: 3x3

Thanks cha. I took your advice months ago and stopped doing sit ups. I do hanging leg raises. Are they OK in your opinion? I am a flat back bencher. I never could get the hang of arching so I think I'll be OK there.

Today:

Front squats: 115x5; 135x3; 155x2; 170x2; 180x2; 190x2; 200x2
CG BP: 115x5; 135x3; 155x1; 170x1; 180x1; 190x1; 200x1; 160x11
Barbell row: 115x5; 135x3; 155x3; 165x3; 175x3
Ab stuff

Weight: 205. My back felt pretty good today. I'm really concentrating on each squat rep to make sure I keep proper form.

Re: 3x3

The hanging leg raises may or may not be ok. Most people flex their low back, at least a little, when they do them, and that isnt good.

Good point. The leg raises I do are like this:

Maybe 'hanging' leg raises wasn't the right description. I kind of have some back support but I'll still concentrate on good form with these.

Today:

Push press: 95x5; 115x3; 135x2; 150x2; 160x2; 170x2
1 arm DB row: 50x5; 65x5; 75x5; 85x5
Tri PD: 100x5; 110x5; 120x5
EZ curl: 70x5; 80x3; 90x3; 100x3

Weight: 205.

Front squat: 115x5; 135x3; 155x1; 165x1; 175x1; 185x1; 195x1; 205x1; 165x7
CG BP: 115x5; 135x3; 155x3; 170x3; 180x3; 190x3
Pendlay rows: 115x5; 135x3; 155x2; 165x2; 175x2; 185x2
Ab stuff

Weight: 204. Best I've felt in awhile. Maybe I was just amped by the J-E-T-S signing Tebow.

Weight: 204. All out on PP's to get 175 and 180. Just for the hell of it I looked back to exactly 1 year ago. I worked up to a single with 200 and then did a back off set of 160x8 at 202 BW. Sort of depressing actually.

Weight: 204. Starting to come down with something. It usually goes to my chest so I wasn't breathing all that well today. Saw a notice posted at the gym that they will be closed on Friday (Caesar Chavez Day) so this will have to be a 2 day week. I'll be back on Thursday.
