Re: 1 mile run time?

I ran a 5:15 1600 on a very windy day my junior year. Didn't run the race much as I as more of a 800 runner. I'm pretty sure I could have ran sub 5 if I would put some time into it and maybe lost some weight I was a big 800 runner at about 180 lbs.

Very solid. Even a lot of fairly fit people will struggle to ever break a 6 minute mile. I think I only did a 5:58 once, and that was when I was in track and soccer as a teenager.

I am actually curious to see what my time is now...

Re: 1 mile run time?

95% of the players on my soccer team broke 6min (it was a requirement) but i was the only one to break 5. /brag, but really its sad since i proly cant break 8 now.

anyway, point is, decent athletes in high school soccer should easily break 6.

Re: 1 mile run time?

Running under a 5 min mile isn't common. I was the only one in my highschool class that was able to do it. I think any relatively young person could run under a 6 min mile if they trained for it.

I'm making a bet with one of my friends that I can run under a 6 minute mile without any training. I basically haven't done any cardio since highschool, which was over 4 years ago.

Re: 1 mile run time?

Started doing some cardiotarding this spring and was able to do 2 miles in 12 minutes. I'm sure I could have done faster, but the treadmill doesn't go any faster.

A girl I used to coach (basketball) plays VB at an NAIA school and they're required to run a 7:30 during their preseason practices. She was always horrible at anything conditioning so she barely makes it every year.

Nothing better than watching a bunch of awkwardly proportioned women have to run

Re: 1 mile run time?

I think the good time is 4-5 minutes for one mile running. I am a runner but I don't take interest in timing I just run for my fitness and health. And with sprint running I can run one mile under 5 minutes.

I run a 4 mile course by my house in ~33 minutes. So 8:15.

Re: 1 mile run time?

Random bump related to running... ok I'll post.

I have no idea what I can do a mile in right now and it's kinda driving me crazy. I'm doing marathon training which doesn't involve a whole lot of fast running, but I think I could probably go right around 6 flat without too much pain.

I'm supposed to do 4 easy miles today and I'm extremely tempted to include a jog to the track and one fast mile in those 4.

Re: 1 mile run time?

Well... couldn't help myself. Jogged to the track and warmed up, then ran a mile at like 85% effort. I was actually just going to run a 90 second lap and see if I felt like doing three more. First lap was like 93 or 94, half mile was about 3:10. According to my hand timer I finished in 6:23 but GPS said 6:04

Not bad considering

a) it's hot
b) I was by myself on a track
c) I had about 2 lbs. of carnitas and quesadilla bouncing around in my stomach the whole time

Understatement of the thread so far is 4-5 minutes is a good time. Isn't 4 minutes approaching world class?

Re: 1 mile run time?

If you took just high schoolers in Texas there would be over 500 kids who could break 5 mins. in mile. Some top schools have 10+ kids under 5mins every single year.

Proper mile training is probably the hardest training of any track event. Being on a good team and training for the mile vs. the average guy "getting in shape" and running one is a world apart.

A good time for someone who prepared somewhat for it? I will say anything under 5:30.
