Anyone have experience with these glasses?

http://www.theneatglass.com/Home.html

I haven't gotten around to buying proper glasses for drinking, so I've been using plastic cups. Obv I plan on changing that, and I just happen to come across the glass I listed above via a fb group I joined. Apparently that glass provides a better nosing experience

Tens:

Link from that same FB group: http://www.scotchblog.ca/scotch_blog...eat-glass.html

I'll probably be picking up a few of these glasses sometime soon.

TenRUs:

I like to have my whisky from a glass that is about as wide as as the one in your picture, enabling me to use the nose simultaneosly as I'm tasting, hightening the experience. The Glencairns, which are some kind of golden standard, don't appeal to me as much, because you have to choose if you are sniffing or sipping, can't do both at the same time and with the same position of the glass, because they are so narrow.

Tens,

I have the glencairn glasses and think they are great. I like the form factor of them better and also like the concentrated aromas, even in higher proof stuff.

I bought some glenfiddich 12 yesterday. what flavors should I be looking for as a novice scotch drinker?

CDL,

I think it's a better experience to just taste it and see if you like it and see what it tastes like to you rather than go looking for any particular observations.

I guess I'll go with 2 Glencarin glasses and 1 NEAT glass, certainly can't hurt to mix it up lol. $18 per glass on the NEATs though, I hope they're worth it

Anybody tried the Angel's Envy rye yet? Finished in Rum barrels and is getting mixed reviews, but consistently comes up as "interesting and completely different". I read somewhere that a guy was vatting a 2/3 old rye to 1/3 rum mixture at home to see if he could achieve similar results. Haven't read how it turned out yet, but think I'm going to try the same. I still have most of a bottle of Vintage 23 rye which is too oaky on it's own for my taste. So, I think I'll start small and mix a cup of it up with 1/3 cup Flor De Cana 12 year rum, let it sit for a while (a week?) and see what happens. Thoughts/suggestions on this experiment?

1/3 of a cup sounds a bit much.
gl with it.

Gonna do this tonight. Will start w. 1/4 cup rum to 1 cup rye. If it doesn't turn out horrible maybe I'll play around with different ratios and try to find the sweet spot.

I think the sweet spot will be enjoying the Flor and Rye separately, but let us know how it goes.

I detailed with pictures.

First, the players. Vintage 23 Rye and Flor De Cana 21:

And We'll need a bottle for storage. This guy looks almost empty:

Let's put him out of his misery:

In with the rye:

And in with the rum:

And a super sweet custom label:

And now what? Should I shake it around? Just let it sit? Drink it immediately?

I decided to swirl it around pretty well and shake it up a bit and let it sit. Still finishing my Van Winkle, so maybe I'll give this a small taste test later tonight. My inclination is that I should let it be for a while for the flavors to "meld", but that's a pure guess and based on absolutely 0 science, so who knows.

Will post tasting notes at some point.

Cheers!

in 2013 talisker released 2 new whiskies.
since i like the talisker 10 and 57` and the distillers edition and the 18.
i had to try them.
talisker is from the isle of skye.

talisker storm:45,8%

the whisky comes out of 1-2 filled and rejuvinated bourbon casks.
nose: campfire smoke(more than the 10 year old),mint, sea weed
taste: pepper, smoke than some sweet and chilli at the end.
aftertaste: long, spicy, some smoke some exotic fruits(mango etc)
not bad,but doesnt have complexity since it is a young whisky.
i prefer the 10 year old which is cheaper too.
talisker port ruighe:45,8%

finished in port wine casks.
nose: sweet smoke(campfire),plums,oak,vanilla
taste: pepper, smoke, than the sweet kicks in(sweet plums),but sadly some metalic taste from young whiskies, ends with chilli.
aftertaste:long, some smoke, oak,spicy
would be nice if it would be older, not even close to the distillers edition

well i could have lived without those 2 bottles, would have been better to try them in a bar first.
i did some dusting yesterday and counted my whisky bottles,i`m very close to 100.
i guess i will go over that mark after my next distillery tour in october.
(looks like speyside with the irish whisky society again)

Note to self - prioritize speysides instead of islays when drinking with company.

I ordered Lagavulin 16 a while ago and Laphroaig 10 last night for dinner. On both occasions people commented on the smell lol. I would've ordered Macallan 12 but I already had a bottle at my apt and I usually always try to order something different

Devil: not sure if you're trolling me or not, which prolly means this is expert trolling!

Anyhow, if serious, I doubt you'd get good results with that blend as you'll likely just end up with slightly sweeter tasting yeast. Thats my expert opinion as a 1 day veteran of blending booze anyhow . But if you hate the Leopold bros. Anyways, might as well give it a go.

Interesting update on my experiment. The nose last night shortly after blending was noticeably unpleasant. Happy to report that its changed completely today - sweet oak and spice when I checked it out this morning. It smells appealing! I received some advice to give it a week or two in the bottle before tasting, but I took a small sip last night just to see. It wasn't horrible, but didn't bowl me over either. Given the change in nose between last night and today though, I'm holding onto hope that this will be a big bunch of awesome in a week or two.

Foo,

Not trolling! Have about a third of a bottle left. Figure I might as well do some sort of experiment.

Foo,

I had a glass of that Colonel Taylor rye a couple weeks ago and loved it. You opened it already?

Druid: haven't opened the rye yet, maybe this weekend! I have had the original bourbon release and the tornado surviving and enjoyed them both. Wish I could find more of the tornado serving but its all long gone around here.

I have a fairly interesting American whiskey selection ATM, a cause for procrastination, and this thread is not allowed to be idle for 5 days. So figured I'd share
Not sure how legible they are. I probably should've just put up the more obscure ones so the pic wouldn't have to be so awkward but from left to right it's Blantons, Dad's Hat Pennsylvania rye, Eagle rare 10, Willet 4yr Bourbon, Noah's Mill, Whistle Pig 11 year (111 proof) although its in the 10 yr bottle, Goldrun 6 yr 100% rye, Hookers house 21 year Bourbon finished in pinot noir barrels, woodford double barrel bourbon, Jefferson 10 yr rye, Corsair Triple smoke, and in the back there's bulleit rye and makers.
