Blanton's isn't hard to get, but it's one I always want to have a bottle of on hand. Gold bottle is cool.

I did not use vacuum seal on this bottle, as the intention was to see what happened with the bottle left open for a while. I have a vacuum sealer and use argon gas sometimes, but only for my more expensive bottles and when I remember and am not too lazy

Anybody have any knowledge on Four Roses store select barrel strength? Saw these for $70 at Spec's in Houston. I've never even had regular single barrel FR so picked up some of that. If I like it I'll probably pick up a bottle of barrel strength assuming it's still there.

DN,

I've had a few of those from K&L. They are some of my favorite bourbons around. I think foobar recommended them to me. You can always count on his American whiskey recs.

http://bourbonr.com/blog/ten-recipes...roses-bourbon/

My favorite so far has been OESF. I'd go with OESK between those two bottles (I like the spicy kick).

K&L has had both OESK and OESV formulas. You can read descriptions of a bunch of different casks here: http://www.klwines.com/Products/r?s=...el&o=-1&z=true

Note that the proof of each barrel plays a big part in the taste too.

Thanks Diablo, I've been reading up on FR and how they create so many different styles by mixing up there yeasts with there different mashbills, very cool.

I've never had any of there products before so I picked up a bottle of single barrel. Really want to like it but it's just not for me. I seem to like the Buffalo Trace and Heaven Hill juice a lot more.

I think I'll do this with the wife this weekend of existing stock. That being said who in his right mind would prefer a bottle of Henry McKenna over Four Roses single barrel.

Sadly i won´t make a trip to the Campbeltown&Feis de Islay festival this year.
It`s during my GF birthday and she wants me to go to Paris with her.
She told me that France is more romantic than Scotland
I`ll never fully understand women ......

Hopefully you would said with better grammar.

I believe they have two locations. If was in Paris for more than a day I'd try to hit both locations.

One location is only whisky, that's the one I went to. The other location has a mix of whisky and other spirits. The whisky store is really amazing.

Fwiw, all BT juice save the parkers.

If you're gonna get on lists for all the annual releases everybody wants but doesn't get, add four roses annual limited.

Just found these in an odd sorta sketchy liquor store.

Done, was going to ask if they had more but it already looked suspicious. I'll go back next week and ask.

This place even had a bottle of Blanton's I passed on.

Did get Stagg Jr for $47 cheapest I've seen it and ha a fifth of J.W. Dant BIB.

When I saw that score decided to back track to another store but no dice.

Anyone have recommendations for the proper ratios and wait time for poor man's Pappy?

Will research while trying out Stagg Jr.

People do different ratios. The only time I had it, we did 60/40 12 to OWA. But anywhere in the neighborhood of 60/40, 50/50 either way is pretty common. Recommend mixing in a bottle and let it sit for a few weeks (although I have no actual proof this makes a difference, the conventional wisdom is that it gives the flavors time to meld).

Nice work, 99! Do you like those glasses? The one time I had Scotch in that type of glass I thought the smells would dissipate a little too much.

That's a Glencairn Canadian Whiskey glass and yes, even though I don't drink Canadian whiskey, I do enjoy holding a larger glass, particularly when I am just knocking back a few scotches on my own; it just feels more relaxing to me, less formal. The shape works well for nosing and it could be said that the larger size facilitates the evaporation of nosing vapours, sort of the same principle of the NEAT whiskey glass. Plus, my daughter gave them to me!

I also have traditional Glencairn glasses but usually only use them if I'm doing some serious tasting with friends—such as that Coperdonich Special Legacy I posted a pic of a few days back.

Cheers!

extreme noobie here, have never really drank much booze outside of shots, I had my first old fashioned last weekend and enjoyed not having beer **** my stomach up. I want to get a bottle for home to just try and sip with water or something, what would be a good bottle to get? Jamison is abaout the only kind I have exp with at all, and I'd like to venture out. lets say $50-$100 price range.
