Anyone had the Bunna 18?

I was in a bar in Minneapolis where they had it listed for $12/pour

Obv they did not actually have it, but that got me kinda wanting to get a bottle myself

I think the 8 is going to be priced lower than the 16, but not by much. Kind of how the 12 is more expensive than the 16, reasons being cask strength and more selective barrels AFAIK.

I had a sample of it which I enjoyed, though not enough to get a whole bottle. I went through my notes and it turns out I had the sample over two consecutive days, compared against other whiskies. Here are the notes I took.

Day 1 note:
Nose: Sherried, markedly different than the 12. A bit oaky. With water there's sherry mixed with mowed grass.

Taste: Sherried with some bitter chocolate.

Finish: Long, herbal, peppery. Gets more honeyed with water.

Overall: Nicely sherried Bunna. Easy to drink, but does not blow my mind.

87/100

Day 2 note:
Nose: Sherry and honey, lightly herbal, very light sea breeze. Oak. Nice balance of the same flavors with water.

Taste: Sweet entrance, developing a spicy flavor. Honey and coating sherry.

Finish: Oaky, bitter, spices linger. Medium length.

Overall: Crisp sherry bomb, on the level of the Glendronach revival.

88/100

Thanks, El T, for the Bunna 18 intel

And lol: I just checked my bottle of Springbank and its Springbank 12, not 10

Don't think it's the cask strength tho

Says bourbon cask matured, one of 9000 bottles, 92 proof

Delicious whatever it is

so your springer is green!

the % changes from batch to batch.

El T meant that version, which is mainly sherry cask.

the % changes from batch to batch with this version.

BC, does it has an age statement on the back label?

Eagle Rare (Buffalo Trace), and Elijah Craig (Heaven Hill Brands) have both come under some criticism lately for a label change. The age statements of 10 and 12 years have been moved to the back label.
Maybe it's the 10?

So I have 2 bottles of btac eagle rare 17 -2008 version. Anyone know the best place to sell one for the rediculous prices that I have seen online ($900+ lol)? If people are willing to pay that much I might as well sell one and buy multiple cheaper drinkable bottles.

Whiskey fans,

Doing some tasting tomorrow!

Lemme know if you want a review of anything on the list.

Edit: Hmm, apparently you can only access this tasting list via mobile.

Glenmorangie signet if you get a chance. It's a "vip" though not sure what that means.

Goose,

VIP is stuff they have for the first hour only with a VIP ticket, which I do happen to have!

But I can take care of the signet for you right now. I think I actually prob reviewed it previously itt, but let's see...

Very sweet, lots of chocolate, a little caramel, some coffee, super smooth. Not really much like scotch. More like a chocolatey brandy or something. Tasty dessert drink, but def not worth the premium price IMO.

Devil,

I'd try the two four roses barrel selections.

Diablo,

You have a VIP ticket, I assume? If so, Highland Park ICE would be nice to try, although it is listed as "tentative".

How much was the ticket BTW?

ET,

Yep, VIP ticket. Tickets for this one were $130/160 regular/VIP. Even better, a friend is taking me to this one, boom!

It's always worth getting VIP for these things. You get a handful of special tastings, and more importantly you get an hour before it's packed and all the good stuff has lines.

I always taste stuff I want to taste during VIP hour, then after that I mostly just drink stuff wherever the line is shortest.

Seems like a good deal, but is it my impression or the quality of the bottles has been decreased from previous years? I remember you posted something similar 2-3 years ago and I was very impressed with some of the bottles in the lineup. This time not so much. Though that may be because I have tasted a lot more Scotches so there's not as much new stuff for me.

Solid deal for that price and VIP is probably worth almost double the price imo.

Ya the signet sounds like something I'd rather try at a bar than buy a bottle of but it is a super cool looking bottle to have on the shelf!

ET,

You definitely are way less impressed with the selection than you were in previous years due to you just having tried a lot more stuff - having been to these for like 10 years now, it's way less impressive even though I think the quality is actually pretty consistent.

However, the bigger reason is I'm pretty sure you're thinking of another one I've been to a bunch, WhiskeyFest. That's a substantially more expensive show - $245/295 early bird pricing.
