Start doing lots and lots of squats and you'll be in ski shape in no time.

And do some cardio too I suppose.

I used to ski a lot. Every weekend back in college out East, used to teach beginners in the Midwest in High-School. Would do everything on the mountain, plus a little bit of back-country stuff, but nothing too crazy.

Now I'm 34, married with 2 kids, and haven't skied in a few years. I'm out of shape, don't really exercise much, but really want to get back into it and teach the family to ski. I skied for a half day about 3 years ago and was so winded by the end I had to cut out the last run.

I'm looking for advice on how to get back into the swing of things. First off, what exercises are the best to get my cardio and strength back so that I'd be able to actually ski a solid 4 or 5 days in a row. Second, should I just be looking to rent equipment at this point, or if I am going to buy something, what should I be looking at. I want to be able to do basically anything on the mountain. I used to do bumps and trees no problem, but who knows how my knees will handle that now. Something like an all around ski. Thanks in advance

Out of shape dad
Weighted squats/Deadlift/lunges for leg strength, HIIT for cardio.

Skis for all mountain - get something 90-110 waist, towards the lower end if you're more on groomers, higher if you're more off piste.
If you're into backcountry/touring, go 110+ and get something super light.

Both pretty good for US customers.

HIIT if he hasn't done any exercise for a couple of years seems like a bad idea ;-)

Just had the best week of backcountry skiing I have had in several years. 2 feet of fresh snow, cold temps, and a stable snowpack. Skied areas I had been waiting to ski for several years...Its finally, game on!!!

I love BC....

7 springs, below pittsburgh, gloats how they are the only ski resort open in PA. If you like mud, they are.

60$ for 4 slopes open and look like this is LOL.

It's not there fault, but they are arrogant.

Anyone got any recommendations for April skiing in Europe? I've skied Val Thorens before and whilst the skiing was decent considering I went in the last week in April, it can get a bit bleak, the food and drink is overpriced and the apres isn't good. I'm guessing Les arcs/La Plagne is the same and Tignes?
Any suggestions other than the huge purpose built resorts? I looked at Solden, Cervinia, Ischgl and Mayrhofen.

I've skied Morzine, VT, Laax, Selva, Arabba, Saalbach-Hinterglemn, Soll, Niederau, Kirchberg, Kronplatz

Went out boarding this past Sunday and the outside of my lead foot was pretty swollen and would experience mild pain when walking on it. It's been fairly painful my last few times out riding but I always chalk it up to, "well that's snowboarding." Starting to think that it's excessive.

My boots are pretty old, 2008 Burton Freestyles. Ride a 2009 Horrorscope, maxed out stance width (couldn't tell you what it is in cm), -12/+12, Union Contact Pros. I've always ratcheted my bindings to the max, but reading up about foot pain I've seen suggestions to back off binding tightness, that you can achieve maximum responsiveness without going as far as you can.

Planning on messing with the straps and maybe my stance width before I consider looking into new boots. Don't wanna spend a whole day riding trying to figure out the foot pain issue, though Any suggestions?

I haven't been to Copper in a while but we'll be going there in March for a weekend. Interested to hear if you go to any solid food/etc places.

We are heading to Mont Tremblant in late March for snowboarding and hopefully some NLHE. Cannot wait. We just ordered snowboards from evo.com (seems like a good company) and they are sending them to Las Vegas for us next week so we can try them out there. Any recommendations on Mont Tremblant and snowboarding there? We are intermediate riders and stay mainly on groomed trails. Do you think we'll have any luck with getting a poker game going? We are staying at the base of the lift to the casino.

BTW, we had a blast at Lee Canyon. Yes, it's very small, but the weather was great and the snow was decent (not too icy or slushy). We went 2/12 and 2/14. The best part was absolutely no lines on the left lift -- and only an hour drive, so dinner and then poker at night! Cannot wait for Mont Tremblant.

any interest in snowboard/poker house july-sept in argentina? Open to Las Lenas or Barriloche, haven't decided exactly yet. Prob Bariloche as it's basically the lake tahoe of South America from what I gather. Going anyways but would be cool to have a partner in crime. I speak spanish although you prob don't need to

Just wrapped up my season. 70 days of ridding interior BC pow topped off with 10 days of great spring corn. 50 days on skis, 30 on a board. My best winter in many years. I road with a few 2+2ers. Thanks for the epic turns and evening card games.
