MT are you independently wealthy or something? Or are you balling from poker?

I'm amazed at how many different places you've managed to snowboard.

Kicking Horse is probably my favourite when it has good visibility. Doesn't get as much traffic. Lake Louise has a ton of spots that get icy as hell after a few hours on weekends.

I'm kinda old too (31) but didn't start fulltime poker until about a year ago basically. I know you mostly ski back country, but plane tickets add up don't they?

Just googled Arai Mountain. Didn't realize that it's 951m vertical (comparable to Western Canada's mountains). I really gotta start planning a trip to Japan.

Learning some new stuff on plastic, can't wait to get back onto the real stuff once I'm done with uni. Anyone else ITT do any freestyle? Have only really got into it the past year but it's a super fun way to make the most of tiny mountains/ plastic slopes if you're a competent skier.

looks good, did you do some reading on what type of motions to go through to pull this stunt or was it just trial error ? i imagine if i tried it i would just freeze half-way and land on my side or head and it would be real clowny

Hit up Sunshine Valley on Friday. 20cm of that fresh stuff the night before. Snowed most of the day off and on, but you could barrel down most runs without worrying about ever getting hurt. My legs are really sore today and I'm in pretty damn good shape. So many out of shape people had left early.

Kinda just watched how other people threw them in videos and stuff like that and hucked and hoped, first few overrated slightly so adjusted. With most stuff in skiing, like even 360s and 180s it's trial and error I think, helps if you know people who have done the trick before who can help you.
Also like realistically the only invert I've ever done that I think theres a chance of landing on my head is a backflip, everything else once you throw you're pretty much coming round past that point everytime.
It's weird because backflips are deffo the easiest flip, but just high consequences of freezing up ha.

ok thanks man, i will be heading on a small trip soon and i will do my best to wipe the rust off quickly and see if i can get something going (preferably something that doesn't end with a head injury)

Cool good luck man! No idea if you've tried any freestyle at all before but if not the most crucial tip of all that even some very good people don't do is make sure you pop on every trick or just standard jump. Just don't ride over a jump, conciouscly squat and jump off the lip, makes you so much more in control of the motion.

The places you get to look sooo sick! Is split boarding effectively just snowboarding's version of skinning? Or is that too crude a description ha

splitboards are snowboards that are cut in half which allow you to attach skins so you can climb mountains and snowboard back down.

Looks so cool, how long are the expedition's you go on? Definitely would like to get in to skinning/touring once I get to old for freestyle, getting totally out into the wild in places like that must be such a cool feeling.

Edit; also deffo interested in full report, would be cool imo to get this thread way more active with trip reports etc

one week up at the yurts.
but add travel time from tokyo-moscow-bishkek 16 hours
plus bishkek to karakol 6hrs.
plus karakol to yurts 4 hrs.

the travel/adventure/journey is definitely the primary goal of the trip. snowboarding is secondary.

do you guys know of a resource to get better? a step by step description of how to do things?

i'd like to apply deliberate practice to some snowboarding i have issues with (washing out backside turns on steep hard blacks and 180s/360s to name two), but i can't find a detailed enough description to work from

something like this post is extremely helpful/much more in depth than most stuff, looking for stuff like this basicly:

^ youtube. that's where I learn everything pretty much now. and if you wanna polish up a bit more, most mountains have classes or lessons for anything you'd wanna know.
