rental gear is pretty bad all over japan except in niseko.

travelling japan with gear isnt an issue as you can takkyubin your luggage anywhere in japan for $20. (so typically what you would do is you finish shredding, pack you board bag, pay $20 and it will be ready for you to collect at whichever airport you fly out of, meanwhile you get to travel japan light)

taking it to thailand might suck though, but then again so does using crappy rental gear.

I'm pretty sure my current OR shell jacket isn't going to make it that long & I don't like it that much...

I did have to get the bib's crotch repaired this last year---Rainy Pass repair in Seattle does a nice job.

i agree 100% with you. i posted that because before i bought a patagonia powslayer jacket last year from backcountry.com. retails for $700. i got it on sale for about $400. i was skeptical about high end outerwear.
my whole kit is basically patagonia now.
love the company and things theyre doing like this

good summary of splitboarding.
i have switched to the latest system they are talking about.
hardboots with phantoms. no doubt the best splitboard system available.

Going to saalbach on Saturday. Hardly any snow. There seems little point going to the glacier in kaprun since apparently it's absolutely rammed.

Anyone in Whistler have an extra room my wife and I could use for ~2 nights? Trying to avoid getting scammed on a hotel, will buy a nice dinner or pay some amount if anyone helps us out. Thanks.

Vancouver Craigslist often has pretty good last minute deals from folks who have a timeshare that they are not going to be able to use and want to rent....GL

Been a SoVT skiier/rider my whole life. Contemplating going to NoVT to ride a bit in the next 10 days. Any suggestions for which mtns to go to? Less crowds, more fun terrain always a plus.

Thanks.

Rode at Niseko Hirafu this afternoon and had a blast. Great tree runs and fresh powder until the lifts closed. Aussies definitely around but I didn't run into any douchebags. Maybe I got lucky. Canceling my plan to drive to Rusutsu and will ride here again tomorrow.

That Candide video is legit the craziest thing I've ever seen, 3 doubles of pretty much side hits and sending it to flat constantly.

Thanks for sharing, one the most amazing extreme sports vids I've ever seen. I'm a boarder and know very little about the skiing world, I'm guessing this is as elite as it gets?

Anyone ever been to Tahoe? I am out there the week after next for a conference and looking to snowboard for a few days...Looks like their snow so far this season has been pretty dismal.

Tahoe is great when there's snow, but you are correct - it is terrible right now. Last few seasons have been pretty bad actually.

Like guys will throw bigger tricks than Candide in big air events/ slopestyle etc, but in terms of charging around the mountain yeah this is utterly ridiculous, doubt anyone else could charge at that speed and do the things he does.

Got to use my new Attack Banana snowboard for the 2nd time this season.

Hit up Lake Louise on Monday. Perfect temperature, +10C, was pretty much empty with no lineups for lifts all day. Managed to hit 98.8kph and didn't really notice poor conditions until about 30 minutes from last lift. Plan on going to Kicking Horse next week, will update then.

I skied the Lake Louise and Kicking Horse last week. Kicking Arse was in way better shape. More snow and better coverage. I'll be back at the Horse in 2 weeks.

Cheers

Rode the last 4 days in Kitzbuhel (Austria). Some amazing powder off the piste but had to be the most snowboard hostile resort I've ever been to. A trillion miles of flat traverse.

Still glad to get the days in given how **** Tahoe is this year.
