Skiing in soll. Finding it really hard going. Was ill before coming so maybe it's that. Runs bumpy and need snow. No nice smooth runs.

Looking to buy a new board, any recommendations?

I love to ride powder, but unfortunately it's not always there (I mostly board France). Apart from that I do all runs, prefer the ability to make quick turns & do tricks on natural features over stability at high speeds.

I'm 187cm/87kg.

Any suggestions? This looks cool, but it might be too specific? http://gb.burton.com/default/super-h...id=mens-boards

Budget doesn't really matter, within reason obv

Kaby, do you like to go off piste and tour at all or mostly just lift up and bomb down with some jumping around?

If the former, is a split board of any interest to you?

Just hit up a couple board shops, and get their advice. Not a sports store where a guy just lurks around boards for the commissions, but an actual snowboard/ ski store. Should steer you in the right direction.
Or ask the guys that work at the mountain repair area, and use that info to buy it elsewhere.

You do pretty similar riding to me from the sounds of it. I own 3 boards, rocker (abor formula), hybrid (burton sherlock), and a ride machette GT which is mostly camber with some rocker on the tips.

From those 3 id def say got for the hybrid option with rocker between the feet. My sherlock is sick in powder (much better than the ride that wants to nose dive very easily). I wouldnt got for straight rocker and u dont get alot of pop for hitting those features.

hybrid (with rocker between feet) > rocker > camber, imo

Any recommended sites for finding where there powders at in the world at any given moment?

Basically, say you want to go tomorrow and can go anywhere within an 8 hour flight of your location. If you're in the US, where do you look? If you're in Europe, where do you look? Obviously no need to look in Japan since it's always powder, so I guess just any good resource for finding where the good conditions are in Europe and North America?

This is the closest thing I've found: http://www.snow-forecast.com/overviews/picks

Reliable?

Thx for the advice guys!

Insideman, at least next two seasons it'll be lift accessible/short hike pow for me. The idea of split boarding sounds really cool though, might do it in the future.

Wayne, that Sherlock looks great, will probably get that

Great, thanks for the links.

Mouth, you using your split board daily or only when touring?

only when touring.
i tried riding it in the pow and its just too small (148 spliff)
in hindsight i should have bought a hovercraft split so i could just have the 1 board.
it will get its first proper workout at the end of this month when i go to rishiri island off the coast of the top of hokkaido

Wow, that looks amazing. Is that going to be with a guided group? That mountain looks legit and I imagine it can be pretty intense this time of year conditions/weather wise. Looking forward to seeing more from there..

yeh defo need a guide for that place. conditions will be very tricky, we're going quite early in the season when the wind and vis is typically horrible.

Do any of you guys use Alpine Replay? It's an app that tracks your runs, top speed, avg speed etc.

It also lets you choose whether you're a skier or snowboarder, and also lets you compare your stats vs other people of that day or season.

Pretty cool app imo.

I have a question. A board I bought in December is kind of long and I was going to sell it and buy the same board in a shorter length. I noticed a crack in the top sheet near the tail though. Ride's website says that they cover structural cracks to the top sheet. Would this qualify? I didn't hit any rocks in the 2 days I rode it and don't remember anyone hitting me in line or anything. There is a noticeable ridge on the base side of the crack too. Like a bulge outward, not a gash or anything from hitting a rock. The place I bought it from says it takes up to 30 days so I'd kind of like to know beforehand if this is likely to be covered. I have a powder board to use while I wait but that's it.
