So I just picked up a new pair of skis and some boots today. I got the Dalbelo Proton P8 boots and picked up the K2 Public Enemy skis and I went with the 159s. Now I just need to find somewhere to take these out this weekend. Also, what do you guys use for travel bags? I was considering buying a snowboard bag so I could hold all my gear...anyone have any suggestions?

http://www.skiwhitewater.com/ is the best skiing i've ever experienced. It's a small hill outside Nelson, BC. The snow is the sickest of all time and the terrain is legendary. The back country is absurd and the hill itself, even though it's short, is amazingly awesome. The hill, town (Nelson), and the surrounding back country is mentioned in Powder Mag regularly and was, don't remember what year, called the best snow in North America (at a public ski hil).

like early may. I dunno I'm done this monday and going to san remo. The weather is beautiful here right now, but all the snow has been wind blown and it kinda sucks.

Also, how common is this? I swear all the groomers turn into small mogul fields by the end of the day here and i swear it's not something that happened a whole lot in the rockies. Either way it's a huge pain in the ass to ski groomers here - either they get these bumps every where or they are way too ****ing crowded. I'd kill to cruise down a nice groomer with sick rollers right now.

Yah, I've heard some sick things about whitewater. Another mountain that you might want to check out is Powder King, which is like 3 hours (north?) of Prince George (towards mackenzie anyways) and it always has absolutely sick snow (whole lot more than whitewater right now).

What resorts are the best bet for late in the season in the US/Canada?
I'm getting married next March 28th and we're thinking of crossing the atlantic for some skiing for at least part of our honeymoon; which i guess would be early april. Is there still likely to be some good snow then? I think the Alps would be unlikely to be great at that time of year. We're both intermediate-ish skiers fwiw.

Pics from the first few days at Baldface...

This place is so sick, the powder is incredible and it's only three of us on the mountain. Nelson, BC.

speaking in general terms, Utah resorts get much more snow. Particularly Alta/Snowbird. Denver area resorts (Breck, A-Basin, Coppet, etc) and also Vail/Aspen don't get nearly as much. The Canyons/Park City don't get as much as Alta/Snowbird, but still more than most Colorado places.

also, Nelson is a sweet town. I've been out there a few times, but always in the summer

cts are you catskiing or heliskiing or just boarding backcountry?
I did some catskiing in Fernie BC a few years ago and it was incredible. There hadn't been fresh stuff in a week but we were skiing shin deep or better the whole time.

Sponger, how long are you at the beav for? I was thinking about taking thursday off of work and heading over there. Also, I heard a rumor that Stone Creek Chutes was closed for the season. Confirm/deny?

Just yesterday, we've ridden for 5 days at Vail, and we're going to Breckenridge for the morning and then driving to the airport to go home. I have no idea about Stone Creek Chutes, although they already closed down a bunch of lifts this week at Vail even though the last day is on the 13th.

And yeah since its suppose to be dumping you should take off work and go somewhere.

tl;dr

Today was beyond unreal. I skied yesterday at Beaver creek and it was a solid 7" in the morning and snowing all day. I come home and see on a ski forum this notice about Aspen Highlands:

"When planning to extend the season at Aspen Highlands, one of the risks was getting so much post-season snow that we’d be required to ski track the mountain. Fortunately, that concern has materialized. Aspen Highlands is holding a Powder Posse on Friday, April 11 to help break up snow layers.

To join this Posse:
· You must be an expert skier or rider in good physical shape
· You must be comfortable in deep snow on double diamond terrain
· Report at the base of Highlands at 9:30 on Friday morning
· Sign a waiver
· Bring lunch and liquids

You do NOT need a transceiver, shovel or probe. You will be directed where to ski and ride…you have a mission!
You do NOT need a ski pass and parking is free
If you meet these requirements, please join us—Highlands needs your tracks,
Thanks,

Doug Mackenzie and Mac Smith"

Considering Highlands has been closed since Sunday and its been snowing most of the time since I was in.

I showed up to work really early and told my boss as soon as he walked in the door I wouldn't be working today.

After signing the waiver about 100 skiers got on the lift. Once everyone was up to the top part of the mountain they shut down the bottom lift. If you skiied to the bottom, you were done for the day. I stuck it out to the bitter (oh so sweet) end.

This is what it looked like before the rabid horde of skiers descended:

Sorry no action shots, fighting the horde for fresh lines, camerawork would have cost me the best run of my life. No shots of the horde either. I was rabid with powder frenzy myself as we all waited for various ropes to be dropped throughout the day.

This doesn't look too shabby, if you are willing to hike for it:

So much for April.
