mmmmmm that 3rd photo (and last, same chute?) looks like gold.

how do prices in NZ square up against other spots - and what's some of the best 'value' for riding you've found during your snow schralping journies?

different couloirs.

prices are not cheap, in terms of actual terrain you get for lift tickets id say its super expensive. im not sure how much tickets were as i didnt buy any but i think they were in the 70-90 NZD range.

hostels are cheap $24-30NZD, but internet is ****. its a 2nd world country for sure.

obviously since ive started splitboarding, the best value is/will be anywhere since its literally free and the lines i ride are better than can be had in any resort. id encourage any snowboarder to get into it.

besides that, the best value is still japan. nowhere beats it period.

just spent the weekend in the backcountry around Kosciuszko national park. probably the last time on a snowboard for 3 months.
first time building and sleeping in a snowcave which was fun.
got some good turns in and had a fun adventure.

Do snowcaves collapse often enough to be a concern?

Looks like a cool trip...

no. i know a guy that ski tours 100+ days a year and always digs a cave.

id be more concerned about simply being in the backcountry.

Watched it a few months ago, it was pretty good if you're interested in seeing the recovery from a major head injury. It's not so much a ski/snowboard movie as it is about his life and recovery.

Not too much longer....can't wait to dust the board off. No new equipment for me. I should be set for a few years. Hopefully we get a big winter in New England!

What are you skiing? Groomers or off piste? Skill level, height, weight, etc.

i guess i should have been more specific. when i say gnar i mean the powpow gnargnar. i have other skis for groomer days.

i'm 5'10" 140ish and i want something that'll float effortlessly. but at the same time i want to be able to turn in the trees. something with nice rocker, probably not more than about 110mm at the waist.

Shameless plug but these might be good for what you're look for.

Really? I found multiple listings online for the same model (2012) skis and bindings selling new for $400-450 and $200-250, respectively. Mine are as good as new with only aesthetic scratches. Also, I increased the price on my ebay listing to be able to offer free shipping (the shipping center told me it would be close to $100) and to cover ebay fees (10%). I have a Craiglist post asking much less. I would do $400 for an in-person transaction.

this is like saying your 5 year old ferrari with 100k miles on it is "as good as new with only aesthetic scratches" and then asking for 90% of the purchase price.

agree with stinkypete here.

i usually get 30-50% of RPP when i sell my 2nd hand gear.

I'd be totally okay with getting 50% of what I paid for them new ($900). Anyways, maybe I'm just biased by the fact that I recently sold a watch on ebay for $920 that I bought new 5 years ago for $650 (yes actually made a profit). Must have been an unusual occurrence. I didn't realize skis depreciated so quickly.

the brand new 2013 version of your ski is available for $380 ($440 shipped).

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Line-Prophet...item54005f804d

i'd use that as a base price and subtract about 50% for lightly used skis. then take off another 50% or so since your skis are beat up and delaminating. the bindings are likely worth more than the skis at this point. you should be stoked if you can get $200-$250 for the package.

skis instantly lose their value once they hit the snow, they are about as good an investment as a new car. on the other hand its very common for watches to gain value for a wide variety of reasons. comparing them is completely ridiculous.
