Advise on the best hill in canada to spend the season? Not really a party animal so im counting whistler out i think.

Want a place with a decent sized village/local town, good snow quality and quantity, good vertical, short/no lift lines (dont have to get out on the hill at the crack of dawn for freshies), terrain park.

From the research i have done, interior BC seems to be what im looking for. Banff is an option i guess, but seems like its maybe too cold there at times (but if it ticks all the other boxes ill def consider it).

Here is a list of places im thinkin of:

- Revelstoke
- Kicking Horse
- Fernie
- Red
- Big White
- Silver Star
- Whitewater (hill too small?)

Thoughts/reviews? places i should be considering that r not on the list?

I have a Dakine LoRoller which was ~$100. I've only used it on one trip but I really like it so far.

hit a new resort today. (16th of the season) hakuba minekata. a tiny 2 lift resort with a very local's vibe to it. basically had the place to myself. saw maybe half a dozen skiers all day.
i took a snowskate out and rode that. pretty damn fun.

Today was an incredible day. I finally got a taste of some ungroomed, untouched, powder (we don't see much of that 'round here). The snow was nice and light and I felt like I was weightless cruising down the mountain....awesome. It was the best day of riding I've EVER had.

I've just spent this season (my second here) in Fernie. Today was my 55th day on the hill this season.

Town - has everything I need (two supermarkets, several board shops, Canadian tire, at least six bars, a junior hockey team, movie theatre, some good restaurants, etc.

Snow - quality depends on temperature as Fernie is a bit low and South so it gets warm sometimes, but most of the time when it snows it's perfect fluffy powder. Quantity - we've had 893 cms so far this season and I've lost track of the 15cm+ days I've had. Even a little official snowfall can make for an epic day up top and or in some of the stashes.

Vertical - plenty, especially if you're willing to string together three lift rides to get a run all the way down from the very top to the village. That's about 3500 feet of whatever you fancy (there's open faces, chutes, trees of varying tightness, and groomers all available for at least some of the way).

Lift lines can get "busy" on weekends (sometimes I have to wait five whole minutes to get a chair from the singles line). Midweek unless it's early on a powder day I can almost ride straight on most of the time. There's enough terrain, and enough that's slightly hard to get to that you can find fresh lines the afternoon of a powder day or even in to the next morning.

Haven't lived any of the other places you're considering, but Fernie is awesome. I'm trying to work the paperwork to come back next season.

Feel free to PM me if you have questions - I check this thread fairly rarely.

I really like big white. nice little village, one bar that gets pretty rowdy. kelowna is a quick drive away. amazing snow. huge amounts of terrain. barely any wait for lifts. great park with its own lift. within close proximity to a bunch of other mountains.

here's a vid i just made of my recent trip there. had 18cm's on the last day. started snowing really hard later on in the day. every time you took the lift back up your more recent tracks were covered. best day ever

Are you talking about east coast? I was at Hunter Friday and I have never rode in such great conditions, it was incredible.

65th day of the season and 17th resort. Hit up a snowpark called yanaba, small 2 lift resort with tons of kickers and rails. my lodge gave me a free lift ticket so it cost me $4 in train fares to shred all day.
tomorrow is my last day in japan. will probably head into the backcountry again. i fly to switzerland on wednesday.

Yes, it was at Stratton and I was practically the first person on the mountain (Friday). After a couple hours there were more people eating up the fresh stuff, but even at 3:00 I was finding totally untouched terrain. It was amazing!

Tiny jump so this is the least epic looking 360 of all time, but I'm happy to finally be landing them. Hopefully I can get out a few more times this season and try to throw them off bigger jumps.
