actually, i have a story to share from that trip. scared me a bit.
i went skiing by myself b/c my friend was sick and got to the top of the tram all set to tear up the mountain. i started down the face opposite the tram and was loving it. open mountain all to myself when i felt a slight oddity when turning. i looked down and saw my left boot about half a foot to a foot farther up the ski than it should have been and i immediately stopped.
once i stopped i immediately felt/realized what happened: my tyrolia rail bindings had lost the sole screw locking them into the ski and the whole binding shifted up. there was no way i could ski further on it so i popped out of my skis and pondered my options. at first a looked up and around to see if any patrol station was nearby. nothing in my sight.
so i hiked up mountain a bit and found nothing. i was def too far down to hike all the way back up to the tram and my choices were at that point:
1. continue to wait and maybe yell/get somebody to help,
2. try to ski on the broken ski,
3. slalom down the mountain on my right ski, or
4. hike back up
i had already decided 4 was horrible so i crossed that off.
i then figured, "hey, wtf. i'll go slow. worst that can happen is i fall a bunch." so i chose 3. the run was definitely steep and powdery so this was not going to be easy. about 5 minutes into the run (which turned out to be kinda fun and a good exercise) i see a shack!!! a midmountain stop. it was not much but i went in and prayed that they had a screw for the binding.
they didn't but the dude ended up finding "something" to work and hammered it in lol. so now, i never have to worry about my left binding coming loose again. was a bit worrying but thankfully everything turned out ok and i had an incredible day skiing despite the first half a run scaring the crap outta me.
