If you have anything above mediocre boarding skills I have to recommend the v-rocker boards. Most awesome thing I've ever ridden! What label I really don't know, like I posted earlier I tried the Forum Scallywag and loved it, and recently I tried the Burton Custom v-rocker as well and it was just as fun.

If anyone has any binding recommendations to go with v-rocker boards I'd be interested in hearing as well.

Some of use are used to go ski in the "Portes du Soleil" French/Swiss domain, but this time we want to try out Canada. We would like a great skiing domain (wide variety of slopes, some off-piste, good heliskiing possibilities). We would also like it to be a great skiing resort/station/town where good restaurants, clubs and bars are readily available/within walking distance.

While we are of course going to do some research on our own within the next few days, I thought I'd ask you guys for advice as well as I imagine some of us have similar interests and getting first hand experience rather than commercial sites' comments would be great. If you have sites to recommend or anything else to add, please feel free to do so.

I guess a trip report will be in order at some point .

Thanks in advance for any help!

Costals,

Wolf Creek for your resort activities, then venture off to silverton for your heli skiing or whatever. 3 hours away

Silverton is out of my price range, but I really want to go one day

I am a fairly new snow boarder and want to go on a snowboarding holiday.

Would you say that Scotland is viable?

Yup, that video pretty much explains the basics of the v-rocker. It's basically like a banana board and it avoids getting the edges caught on rails and when you're setting your landings etc. Other than that it rides well in the powder because of the flex and the shape of the board. It's really flexible and enjoyable to ride. I'm no expert on the subject, but try hitting up your local boardshop and see if you can get a testride and some more in-depth info if you feel it's needed.

v-rocker boards help keep your nose out of the snow
which allows you to float in powder much better. They also eliminate the need to ride a set back stance in pow. I like this because you can ride twin tip in powder so riding/landing switch in powder is much easier. However, they do not hold an edge as well on groomers.

I've ridden a lot of reverse camber boards and my favorite is the style with rocker in between your feet and camber outside of them. It is a much better all around board.

Drove up to Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort yesterday for my first turns of the season. They got about a foot of snow last week, so I figured conditions would be alright. Besides my trusty Salomon Teneighty Guns, I brought my rock skis (a pair of beat up Salomon Xscreams) as well just in case stuff was poking through. I didn't need them though as conditions were surprisingly good. The snow was mostly soft and fluffy. Overall the coverage was good, but in between the trees you had to be a little careful of branches and tree trunks sticking out. The sun was out all day, the temperature was around 25-30F and no wind. All in all, a great opening day of the season. Here's some pics I took on my phone, didn't have time to take that many, was having to much fun.

God -- I want to go so bad; Western New York hasn't been hit much with snow and while the resorts are open, the conditions look horrible. It's very upsetting that I probably won't be able to buy a season pass due to work limitations.

I heard that you can get equipment way cheaper from online stores, there any truth in that? I've got 4 friends joining me who all need a full set-up and I haven't shopped for gear in a couple years.

Definately, Ive never been but tbh I did alot of research last year on going to Scotland and I think its fairly beginner friendly from what I could gather. Just gotta keep your eyes on the weather forecasts.

There's an extreme amount of truth to that. I've personally bought 2-3 boards + bindings and shoes from ebay and have saved tons on what I would have spent in Norway. Don't know where you're from though, but gonna guess the US. www.backcountry.com has a good online shop, and if the prices don't differ much from your local shop try ebay.

backcountry.com also has a better warranty/return policy than any local shop

Went boarding in Big Bear on Saturday. My first time going in about 5 years (I had gone about ~20 times throughout college.)

Snow was solid, all runs opened. The crowd wasn't too insane. Rode from 8:30 until 3. It was like riding a bike for the most part and I am pretty much riding at the level I was before. Two days later and still super sore with some bruises from a couple diggers on some small jumps. Overall, super fun and stoked to be back on the mountain.

Price was $66 for "holiday" weekend, which was lame. I think it's $53 normally.

lift prices are so expensive anymore, most lift tickets here in colorado are around $85/$90, so I guess it could be worse.

someone mentioned the v-rocker in this thread, I checked it out down at the board shop yesterday, looked sweet, now I want to try one out
