cool, thanks. will check those two out. this is gonna be a spur of the moment not much planning or foresight type trip, so i figured here was a good place to ask.
Plan for season: soll Austria, kronplatz in Dolomites. Also considering trying to merge the two weeks together by doing introductory off piste course in st anton.
Anyone happen to be looking for a place in Whistler for the season? There's basically nothing available for 1 bedroom or similar but there seems to be some higher end houses 2-3 bedroom stuff available and would be interested in chopping.
I ski at Whitewater in Nelson BC. It's been an epic start to the season. I've got 10 pow days already. It's as good as it can be for early dec. We are forecast for snow for the next week. Life is good.......
I don't ski with camera so no picks. Today was a temperature inversion. Cold in the valley but warm in the clouds. It caused some freezing rain in the morning. It made for upside down powder. Heavy on top but Light underneath. it was best on runs that were tracked a bit and chopped up. It should turn back to snow tonight. As of today the whole mountain is now open. 1 more storm cycle and we will have enough base for the year. Hopefully within a few days.
Tomorrow should be my first day of riding. POW has been dumping in New England all day and should continue through noon tomorrow. Hopefully I'll see ~20" of fresh powder when I hit the mountain. The toughest part is going to be getting there in one piece...
In the Alps for a month, snow conditions really crap atm They announced 50-75cm of fresh snow at higher altitudes for the weekend though, hopefully we get some more.
I'm going to Soll in January. Apparently they've had loads of snow already.
Has anyone been to St. Anton? I'm looking at trying an off piste course there. It's a bit pricey at 550 euros for 5 days but maybe this is just the going rate.
rode st anton 2 seasons ago. great place.
thats standard pricing, almost 'cheap' considering its st anton.
i hired a guide for some backcountry while i was there. necessary imo.
Early season last year there was a lot of snow. I'm just relieved when there's ok conditions because I went skiing twice about three years ago and both times it was all slush by midday.
The hotels in soll are ridiculous. It's pretty much the same price to book a hotel independently there as it is to book with a tour operator, but you get the flight and airport transfer thrown in!
Anyone any clue how I'd get from soll to st anton? Do not drive.
