Stockton, California: Bankrupt

From the above linked article:

Stockton to Take Steps Toward Bankruptcy, City Manager Says
February 24, 2012, 5:22 PM EST

Feb. 24 (Bloomberg) -- Stockton, California, may take the first steps toward becoming the most populous U.S. city to file for bankruptcy next week because of burdensome employee costs, excessive debt and bookkeeping errors that misrepresented accounts, city officials said today.

The Stockton City Council will meet Feb. 28 to consider a type of mediation that allows creditors to participate, the first move toward a Chapter 9 bankruptcy filing under a new state law. The council will also weigh suspending some payments on long-term debt of about $702 million, according to a 2010 financial statement.

“Somebody has to suffer and in this case the city manager has decided it should be the bondholders who suffer,” Marc Levinson of the Sacramento-based law firm Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, which represents the city, said at a news briefing at Stockton’s City Hall today.

HA-HA-HA; So not only is Stockton one of the worst sh*tholes of America it is also a Bankrupt Sh*hole. Time to burn this place to the ground and don't bother to start over. Stockon now overtakes Barstow, California as the biggest sh*thole in America.

I used to keep a boat on Oulton broad. (For the benefit of US readers, a broad is a lake in Norfolk, and Oulton is in a suburb of Lowestoft.)

It never seemed that bad to me. Yarmouth seemed to be a hell- hole, though.

The road going over the hill turned out to be one where every night, the whores would line the street, and cars would pull up, the whores get in, do their thing, and then the cars drive off. So each morning, the entire street/sidewalk was covered with hundreds of used condoms.

After making the trip the first day, we decided it wasn't worth risking our life should we happen to slip and fall on the hill, getting exposed to who knows what in the residue.

No doubt a real ****hole.
We stayed in Naples for 1 day. There was garbage everywhere. While walking to the train station a man fake sneezed really loud and grabbed a wallet out of an old ladies purse. Should I have done something?

on the flip side, everyone that i encountered was nice and the city was very beautiful from the roof of our hotel.

Barcelona,

full of eurotrash, north african pickpockets, rude catalans, scammy cab drivers. did not enjoy my time here.

At the bottom of the country. Cold. Miserable. Lifeless. Even the offer of free tertiary education is not enough to stop people leaving in droves.

The entire West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand.
It's a nice drive down the coast though. Just fill up before hand and don't stop before you reach the glaciers.
**** off

Rhyl, Wales. Holy Jesus this place was grim, I've never seen such miserable looking people, and it was sunny. Can't imagine what it's like in the winter time.

Reno is the ****ing gem city of northern Nevada.

Anyplace along I-80 in that state is a grimy little ****hole. Crappy, cheap little houses huddled together in a blasted out mining moonscape. Whoever drew the borders knew what they were doing. From west to east, you come down out of the beautiful Sierra. Suffer through Nevada, then enter the eerie Bonneville Salt Flats of Utah, which at least is so strange-looking it has that going for it.

cliffs: northern Nevada is a ****hole.

yea but Lake Tahoe is in N. Nevada and it is the greatest place on earth.

poor zeno must have been chased by a bear as he thinks all of the east side of montana is a hole.
all round the national parks are spectacular and fun. but granted the flatland area of farms and sagebrush is pretty dismal as well as the towns.
04-26-2012 , 02:26 AM
the real s==t holes of the u.s. are all the towns that have allowed their business districts to be nothing more than fast food places and box stores. they have turned most of america into towns that all look the same without much character.

Without question, the ****hole of Italy, home to public filth and public displays of human depravity and pure evil unavailable anywhere else in the country.

Reseda, Chatsworth, Northridge, all those Valley hellholes. ALL of the LA-area "sprawl" qualifies, I'll give you that: Lancaster, Palmdale, Adelanto, etc. Can you blame them for the meth? I cannot.

There seem to be some fans of ****ty Massachusetts towns here, so let's add Lowell and Fall River. And Rhode Island.

Lexington, KY, sucks.
Lots of dense yuppies ITT imo. LFS are you ****ing serious? I grew up in Northridge, Calabasas, Porter Ranch, and Encino as a kid and it was far from a hellhole and it's far from one now. You've obviously never traveled the world or throughout the US if you consider that area a ****hole of the world or even L.A. That's just ****ing stupid.

lowell's really not bad at all these days. much nicer than 10 years ago. the downtown area is actually a place i wouldn't mind living in.

+1 I was born and raised in Fresno. I've traveled to a few different places in my time. If you truly believe fresno, chico, and davis are ****holes Of The World, then you are so sheltered it's hard to know whether to pity or envy you.

Stockton, oakland, and bakersfield can go on the list though.

I once knew a security guard in fresno who graduated from the police academy. Was just hired by Stockton PD and was bragging about "$50/hour + overtime up the ass...ill be making 70k/yr starting out etc."

6 mo later he was back vowing never to be a cop again. Too many shootings, too many rapes, too much violence and he couldn't handle the stress.

With high crime and no redeeming industrial or tourist locations, Stockton def. goes on this list.

+1 To Chico being a cool town. I have family there, and it's not bad. Maybe a bit boring, but it's a good place to raise a family
