Artisan cocktails: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/sh...postcount=1246
I don't know of any really cool bars w/ a view. The View at the Marriott has great views but crappy drinks. Top of The Mark has good drinks, but is generally an older, touristy crowd.
http://www.winecountrytourshuttle.com/ - I think you'd have fun doing this $99 wine tour.

I suggest pre mixing your own cocktails, transferring them to portable containers, and going on an urban picknick. This is a great article geared at photographers looking for places to shoot and suggests some great places to stop, snap a photo, have a sip, and continue on to the next spot.

With the spots in the Financial Dist, you'll be close to several bars as well which you can pop into should you want to pop a squat.

Also, had it not closed, CityScape would have been my easy recommendation.

That said, I'm not sure what's up there now. May be worth calling about.

Outside lands coming up. I don't have tickets but will probably try to go see the day Neil Young is playing because he is an all-time favorite and I have never seen him.
A great lineup this year though.

Re: San Francisco Bay Area: Your favorite things to do or places to go
EDF,
I've posted here before, on my other top secret account "JIHAD", but had to rename myself after the site shutdown. Question:
I've been to SF a lot. Grew up in Sacramento as a huge Giants fan. Went into the military and always seemed to find my way back to the city frequently. I have been married basically forever and every time I visited SF it was as a married man, usually wingmanning for buddies.
My wife and I decided to call it quits a few days ago and I've got an opportunity this Saturday to do SF the "right" way. The only problem is, I don't really know how to do it as a single guy.
Right now I have tickets to the Giants games on Saturday and Sunday, I just don't know what to do Saturday night. I'm going on another 9 month deployment in 3 weeks and just kinda wanna have a good time. I'd like to stay away from clubs. Any ideas?
I did the flyover for Giants' home-opener, and as I was walking around park in my flight suit with images of my aircraft being looped on the big-screen I was accosted by women. Of course, now that I'm attacking it from this angle, that freebee will be gone.
What would you do if you were me?
-Jihad

Jihad,
Sorry to hear about the marriage...
How old are you? Do you have people you're going to the games with or are you alone with an extra ticket?

J,
21st amendment, momo's, public house, and Pete's are a few places where lots of people hang out drinking before/after games. The places are listed in order of how much I like them. These are pretty easy places to talk to new people on game days, people are generally in a very fun, social, outgoing mood.
If you don't meet anyone and just want some bars to go to, I assume you're a sort of all- American type and like girls like that. The marina, specifically chestnut/Fillmore/union street area is top area for you to hang out in, second is prob Polk street area bars like mcteagues, r-bar, etc, third is prob north beach area northstar, rogue ale house, etc. I bet Marina area is prob your best bet tho.

Re: San Francisco Bay Area: Your favorite things to do or places to go
Thanks D. I don't really know what kind of girls I like, been with the wife since I was 15. I'm guessing the kind with working girl parts. I can tell you what I hate, 22 year old rich white girls.

I'd avoid the Marina then, as it has a very high concentration of these.

Re: San Francisco Bay Area: Your favorite things to do or places to go
Man that was a blast. Did Saturday's game with some friends, went to 21st Amendment following, met a whole bunch of cool people, then went out in downtown. Ended up bar hopping and parked at some dueling piano bar, which was actually a very poor show but the girls we were with were into it. Anyways, that night ended eventfully.
Today I did the game again, this time with the parents, and ended up picking up my friend in Berkeley who had received a call from an old flame and was at her house. Met her roommate, got called a baby killer (HIIIPPPIIIIIIIEEEEESSSSSSSS), drove back.
I love SF, I really do. I never have a bad time.

Re: San Francisco Bay Area: Your favorite things to do or places to go
(Grunching)
Hi All, I am considering booking a holiday to SF with 3 friends of mine. My sister stayed in Union Square and said it was a really good location.
It will be 3/4 guys looking to do touristy things in the day time but not too much nature orientated stuff, and then at night bar-hop or as we call it pub crawl. None of us drive so we will be relying on public transport.
We will most likely be staying a week Monday-Monday
Is union square a good place to stay, is there anything must see or do??
Would you guys recommend a hostel or hotel with good atmosphere/nightlife

Re: San Francisco Bay Area: Your favorite things to do or places to go
Thursday night is hostel pub crawl night on Polk St. I'd recommend doing that. Start where Blur/Hemlock are and go north from there. I've seen heavy hostel crowds on Wed over the summer too (I play bar trivia at Blur on Wed. sometimes...)
Union square is centrally located (a million public transit options as well), but expensive. If you ball hard go for it. There are also hostels close to that area too. I assume that is where the aforementioned crawlers stay.
