scratchy those are amazing as always. I think 1 and 4 are my favorites. I'd almost be tempted to try to remove some of the water (dead space) between the geese and the trees in 4. But that might be ethically out of line.

You have inspired me. I seriously need to stop spending so much time arguing in Politics and start doing more and more photoshop work and tutorials.

Ha. I just scanned through quickly and thought it was suzzer since he went on a photo workshop recently and I guess he thought it was me. Sorry cardshark. They are great. Do you have any star trails tips? Ive never tried.

But here ill throw one up from a few days excursion earlier this month out of vegas that unfortunately was completely cloudless so didn't really get any keepers.

Well I wouldn't have a problem with it and neither should you! As you said a few months ago "There is no cheating any more. Only your sense of reality and how much of it you want to convey"

Ha I would have never have known you thought they were Suzz's. But umm for the star trails I just focused manually, set it to bulb and let it do its thing for like 15 minutes. The one at f/4 turned out better than the one at f/8 which surprised me a little bit. But that was my first time ever doing them, and they came out pretty damn noisy. Apparently doing lots of 30 second exposures back to back to back and then putting them in a star trails program or blending them in PS is better way to do it. Ask Mike Kelley haha

I agree with suzzer with #4. I really like the tree line framing so I didn't want to mess with the proportions or cropping so I just dragged the ducks up then masked in the ripples from an original copy underneath.

That was weird. For some reason I saw scratchy's post below yours and assumed they were his. And I guess he assumed they were mine? That is bizarre. We should all 3 go on a photo trip sometime!

Btw Marc Adamus (my photo-tour guide) is doing a 6-person trip to the Yukon next Oct to the tombstone mountains where you have to helicopter in. I've told him I'm interested but apparently 25 others are as well

Cardshark, some of those shots are seriously fantastic!

Personally, I really like the original composition of the duck photo. I think it works really well as-is.

What will it take to be able to use my monitor as a viewfinder for my D5000? Googling around doesn't really get me what I want.

I shoot a lot of static stuff indoors(Think Ebay store-esque photography) and it'd be nice if I could just use my monitor instead of a tiny little crappy 3" lcd

As long as your monitor has an HDMI input, I'd say a mini-HDMI -> HDMI cord and judicious use of the live-view button should do the trick.

I've used them 3 times and like them a lot.

very nice star trails cardshark. My fav is the abstract. Love the waveyness of it.

Pele, those are some great compositions. I hate how zoomed in my 50mm is, I wanna get a sigma 10-20, but I'm about $400 short.

Thx! The 50mm on a non-FF camera is a bit zoomed in. Don't think it's such a big problem, you just have to move your feet and camera around a bit more .

A 24mm/1.4 lens would be nice

This thread hasn't been seeing too much action as of late so I figured I'd add my photos from the Tetons. Only spent 2 days there, but I really enjoyed the hiking and the fall colors.

Driving in from yellowstone at night

Sunrise at Jenny Lake. I should have taken another exposure to get the background in focus :-/

just like this one!

playing on the rocks

I feel like I stepped into the wrong part of town

Sunrise at String Lake. Gimme some clouds!

2 shot pano

My Ansel Adams impersonation...except with trees blocking the river, no clouds, and no snowy peaks

Hope you like em, and sorry I'm no good at posting like 3 or 4

Stunning pics! What lens were you using?

I especially like the ones with flowing water. You got great perspective for all those

Found a Nikon Nikkor lens in a cab yesterday. It doesn't seem to be worth too much. I believe its made for a manual camera? is it any good? is there a not so expensive camera to that i can buy to try it out?

im 99% sure its this one

It's a manual 24mm/f2.8, and it'll work on any Nikon SLR, film or digital. I'd certainly consider it a bonus, but I think manual focus lenses are kinda cool. On a 1.5x crop DSLR (which most Nikons are apart from the D700 and D3), it'll be the equivalent of a 35mm lens.

Feel kinda crappy for the poor soul that lost it though.....

I agree, there is a serial number though. I think I will post an add on CL and if someone sends the number ill give it to them... I don't really care so much about it

Thought I would post a link to some of my photos. Started a project where I take portraits of strangers. Here is the URL with a write up on the encounters:

I like this! I usually don't have the balls to ask randos to take a picture, and the few times I have I just get a big, kind of forced looking smile. Do you tell them anything to make their expressions look more natural? Also more pictures of cute girls please

Normally comes down to logistics. Try not to ask people who look like they are power walking somewhere cause they wont stop, go to areas where people are probably more outgoing, better chance if you approach people who look like they are waiting around or make good eye contact with you etc.

How to get better expressions. Just be genuine and try talk to them for a bit (if they arent in a rush or anything). Ive spoken to some people for like 20mins+ before taking their pics. Also if you got an iphone or something pull it out and show them a collection of what you done, that way they know ur not going to use it for crazy **** and if they like your work they are actually more excited to take the pic (if u are just starting put some of ur other photography up to show them).

When its time to take the pic, i dont even ask them to smile unless ive built a decent rapport with them through talking. I just tell them to relax and sometimes say stuff like, "you can choose whatever expression you want for the picture, if you want to laugh you can laugh, if you want to make a scary face you can make a scary face". (silly jokes like that can put a good expression on their face)

In regards to cute chicks, ill put more up i guess since they are everywhere in Tokyo. But kinda want the site to be more about photography (composition, color theory) than just hawt Japanese chicks haha.

Hopefully the post isnt tldr lol.

On a separate note your landscape stuff is really dope. Nice to see good landscape where the person isnt straight abusing HDR by over processing it and making my eyes bleed
