When I bought this they offered me a voucher for basically the same deal. I'm planning to give some of these as gifts, the prices come down if you order more than one copy.

Going to flood some Great Wall pics, I think they come out really great...but maybe that's just because I had a good camera backed with a great lens? I'd love to get feedback and be humbled

Mutianyu is the part I went to iirc

am I trying too hard here? I'm not making any point, I just thought something about it looked interesting...

I find this one really interesting, do you think it needs cropping? First hand glance I would say yes but I dunno...I feel like it's something else, like I should've angled it differently, maybe shot more from the right of the pandas

Although it would've been significantly better if I had framed them on the right imo

I tore the AC ligament in my shoulder a couple weeks ago and I'm still trying to recover - so I decided to go mess around for a couple hours with a camera to get outside for a bit yesterday.

flickr compression hates me.

Really like the Tha Prum pic. Have you tried it as a high contrasty B&W? I'd like to see a little dodging & contrast bump on the tree stump on the left as well

@Mike: Love the I'm Partying shot. Great pics as always

Try the Scott Kelby book on Lightroom. I thought it was really good - he does alot of walk throughs and makes the photos he is using available so you can play along. He also has several workflow examples in the back.

Not sure about new zealand teal. I think i'd like it more if horizon was closer to the top of the frame. The water and sand have really cool detail in the gradient but the sky is a little boring in comparison. Maybe cut it halfway through lightcolor large blue band?

Were you tripod mounted or handheld? I assume this was horizontal panning with like a 1/5 shutter speed or something?

Looking at it more I'm actually starting to like shot, but it's taken a few viewings over the course of 30 minutes or so.

I *really* like the feel of "Howl". Great coloring and subject. Have you looked at it without the foreground? Might add to the desolation if the dock was in the middle of nowhere...

For those of you with questions about the ISO/Aperture/Shutter Speed relationship, check out http://camerasim.com/camera-simulator.html

Just saw it posted on lifehacker today. Basically you have a simulated SLR environment so you can see what changes to any of the parameters will do to the picture. Can be great if you are just getting started I would think

Hey guys, first post ITT (oh hai Suzzer btw and thanks for making this).

So, having always had an interest in and appreciation for photography, it's been absolutely years since I've owned a proper camera. I recently decided to fix that and got myself a Nikon D7000. So far, I just have the kit lens, a 50mm f1.8, a manfrotto tripod and head, and a cable release. The Tokina 11-16 f2.8 is really high on my wish list for my next buy, but before I start throwing a **** ton of cash at this hobby I've really got to start honing my photography chops. I've only had the camera for about a week, and so far I'm still learning how to use the thing, and as such I haven't really ventured further than 5 minutes away from my house, just snapping at stuff and trying things out, but I thought I'd upload a few images here a) for C+C, and b) as a placeholder so that I can (hopefully) come back to these at a later date and try to measure my improvement.

One thing I know for sure is that I really need to work on my composition. I've still got a hell of a way to go with framing a subject and finding the most interesting focal lengths and angles, so any input whatsoever on those aspects would be very much welcomed. This past week the lighting has been pretty crappy, with blanket grey clouds for the most part, so I've been playing around a little with longer exposures, B+W and some mild HDR (I'm not a fan of the super grungy stuff), just for the novelty of it and to try to get some interesting shots. I'm not in love with any of these shots, but I need a starting point, so this is it.

Anyway, enough preamble, here's a selection of images from within a 5 min radius of my house from the past week. All comments and criticisms welcomed:

some gnarly-ass statues

trying to go for the Kubrik look. Didn't quite get there.

3 merged exposures, longest around 1.5 mins.

single 3.5min exposure, around 10PM

I like how you capture the architecture of stuff like the street sign and those buildings.
