I think bi-weekly would be best, but it's up to you. Once we start developing prints, I'll upload some of my stuff.
My suggestions would end up being more along the lines of becoming focused on various aspects of photography. Light, perspective, depth of field, etc, although I'm sure I could come up with more topical things like shooting animals, shooting people, etc. Or...um...we have an assignment for a month from now is to take a self-portrait of your sexuality as seen from the opposite sex. I might skip over that one.
Anyway, let me know. I would need thread-starting powers in this thread to start a contest, though.
Warsaw, do you still post/read this thread? I skimmed through the first page and loved what I saw. I just bought myself a Canon Rebel XSi SLR and am taking a photography class tomorrow. I was actually thinking of proposing the same type of thing.
EXCEPT
I'm not a fan of having a "contest". I'd rather it be more of an exhibition. Point out who did what well or what needs improving. Photography is art, this is a forum, there's no need to focus on who is doing what the best. I think it's more constructive to have a goal and then have everyone post what they did while commenting/giving advice/asking questions about what someone else did.
I really want to get into photography and learn solid fundamentals while having fun and creating what I think are great shots. I think that's the most important. By having a contest, don't you think the goal would shift from "creating what I think is great" to "what I think everyone in the photography thread would like" ?
I also was inspired a bit by the EDF Cooking Contest thread, heh. For instance, we take an object and create as many or work on creating certain styles of images using that object.
i.e. take an apple and create two photos: 1 simple photo that has no more than 3 objects in the picture and another that is more complex.
maybe not the best example but my knowledge in this area is limited but hopefully you get what I mean yes?
Another interesting one would be to capture an emotion. There may be some good arguments for or against whether or not a picture really does convey that emotion (and I mean more complex than having someone look angry)
Also, these threads get really really long w/the photos being uploaded into them. Perhaps we should use another site and just post the link? Thoughts on how to make this more organized?
