Have heard awesome things.

I think (a) you should see if you need to get a reservation ahead of time, and (b) that they are closed aorn because they are moving to Philly from the burbs.

Re: Philadelphia: Places to go, bars to visit etc

This thread is making me feel old. I used to to frequent McGillins/Lucy's/Drinkers, et al a fair bit. I liked McGillin's the best of those places by far. Also Finnigin's Wake on 3rd & Spring Garden was fun. My hangouts of choice shifted to the Art Museum/Fairmount area in my late 20's a few yrs ago. St. Steven's on 17th&Green (good rotating taps & good food), Green Room on 21st&Green (Sunday Ticket & pool tables), and Kelliann's on 16th&Spring Garden (sort of a dive but decent/cheap food across from CCP) are all pretty good sports bar type places; much more my bag than the Irish Pubs of the world, meh...
+1 on Northern Libs being a solid neighborhood (as long as you're not too far north of Girrard) - I am consistently surprised at how many people still think it's a ghetto when the topic of Sugarhouse comes up at Parx or Harrah's. Haven't been to Sugarhouse so maybe it is a craphole for all I know but the neighborhood in general and the Piazza is not bad.

For Roast Beef - Caffe Chicco near Broad & Oregon is a hidden gem, though their hours are limited.

So I'm moving to Manayunk in a little over a week, and I'll be working in the KOP area. What are the good poker rooms around Philly and is there anything decent that isn't too out of the way on my trip home from work? I mostly play 2/5 but sometimes 5/10 as well, very rarely tournies.

it's between harrah's chester / parx / sands bethlehem

i don't really like harrahs room but people do, i like parx but the games aren't great during the week, never been to sands

as for proximity, none of them are that close to you

KOP, you can hop onto 476 and then 95 to go to harrahs. probably a 25 minute trip, depending on traffic.

for parx, probably 30-35 minutes, gotta take 76 to 95

sands, never been and dont even know where it is.

Where in KOP are you working?

There's a game at the Cigar Bar on Main Street... .50/1, though.

Also, for roast beef, Nick's Original Roast Beef is my favorite sandwich of all time.

Just had DiNic's in Reading Terminal Market for the first time a few days ago. Might be one of the best sandwiches I've ever had.

I'm gonna be working for GSK that I guess is in KOP/Upper Merion or so.

Thanks for the tip. .50/1 is a little low but it might be something good to head to every now and then for a more relaxed game.

The outside seating looked pretty nice and the service was excellent, I think I just ordered bad for my taste.

The Frankford Hall is awesome (Stephen Starr beer garden). It's everything the Brau Haus had + 1000x better - the atmosphere with the outdoor bench seating is phenomenal. Definitely check it out it's near Johnny Brenda's in Fishtown.

Apparently Vetri is opening an Italian style beer bar right on 600 North Broad near Osteria and Stephen Starr is also putting in a new england style seafood join adjacent to Vetri's beer bar. Pretty awesome stuff happening in Philly!
I am moving into 600 on Broad (official name for the loft apartments) in 12 hours. Very excited and the lofts are gorgeous and brand new. Also pretty excited about all the new shops and restaurants in the area. The location isn't quite Rittenhouse but we think the rent is a pretty good deal given how nice our interiors are and how much space we're getting.

Re: Philadelphia: Places to go, bars to visit etc

We have a two bedroom on the second floor. My roommate plays poker full time (5/10 and 10/25) and I play a pretty high volume of 2/5 and 5/10 as a side job. We both have cars and play at Parx 4-5 nights a week. Let us know if you guys every want to come out with us to play.

We should also do dinner at one of the new restaurants (Starr/Vetri) once you guys are moved in.
