Went to Prohibition Taproom at 13 and Spring Garden the other night for the first time. Surprised I hadn't been to this place sooner. Small but good beer selection and the Coffee Brisket Sandwich I had for dinner was incredible.

Did you do the budino for dessert? Best I've had in the city imo.

Re: Philadelphia: Places to go, bars to visit etc
went to VF Casino last nite - small, but reasonably 'nice.' Big circle bar in the middle, few tables, no poker, high-limit room, decent # of azn games, friendly staff, way better than SugarHouse, not nearly as good as Parx if only for size reasons.
It was Tue nite so no 'crowd' to speak of, mostly guys obvs, although the craps shooter next to me was a single woman. Okay servers, but not Parx level quality.

Re: Philadelphia: Places to go, bars to visit etc
Guys, I come here for advice from the Philadelphia crowd!
So I'm in a sticky situation, my friend and I need to find a place to move in the city by August 1st. He just got a full time job in the city and it was predetermined that we are moving in together. Backing out of this agreement is not really an option.
Problem is that I have money and good paying job and he does not. He has no money, and at best his new job is going to barely touch 30k/year (most likely less).
So naturally I look through craigslist and all the good listings are too expensive. I would say the top of his range is $1400 for a 2br (no utilities), possibly 1600 for a 2br with utilities and other features.
So basically all the listings (on craigslist) in the price range are subpar to my standards. Not that my standards are super high, but I don't want to live in a sh****** like I did in college.
Also the fact of him not actually being able to pay rent is irrelevant, his family has $ so they would bail him out if he was seriously broke. So my goal is to milk him for all he's worth and get the best possible living situation available.
Things I look for in an apartment/rowhome: good parking, laundry on site, and not to far from center city (short cab ride).
Basically I'm thinking that a nice apartment complex would be the best bet because a lot of the time they have a lot of features for one bundled price.
So do you philadelphians have any suggestions for my probably not so unique situation?
Any reccomendations on places to live or places to look would be very helpful. Also the current areas that we are currently considering: northern liberties, fishtown, area around the arts.
Thank you

Are there any good movie theaters in center city? I have a few hrs there tomorrow and kind of want to chill out and go see Ted.

Only theater I went to is the one in Manayunk. Like a 15 minute train ride from Market East, right off the train stop. Pretty nice. Never went to one in Center City though.

Re: Philadelphia: Places to go, bars to visit etc
There's one on Columbus Blvd which I've been to a bunch of times without issue. This is the only one that has the intense sound crap.
And there's a small on at 20th and Sansom, next to Helium Comedy.
Then there are the Ritz Theatres (3 different locations, all close to each other) around 3rd and Walnut.
And I suppose you can go to the Franklin Institute for IMAX movies. Usually the big ones. Like TDKR will be playing there.
I wouldn't recommend the one on N. Broad Street.

just to be clear to whoever asked, it's right off the wissahickon stop rather than the actual manayunk stop. if you get off at the latter, you will just see...bars
