You only drive between 1 and 5 AM or something? I'm like half a mile from 76 at exit 338 and I don't know that I've ever been from where I live to Center City in 15 minutes.

Well maybe its 25-30 minutes during heavy traffic times, but when there is no traffic its a short trip. Either way I think its a great location for someone new to Philly. I lived in Philly my whole life, I know the city very well, and living in center city for the price range of OP theres not alot of value. I think its better to live in that location. Very young, social, vibrant area. Only down side , is theres no quick way to get to Parx, could be 30-40 minute drive, its a little closer to Chester though. Thats just my opinion.

Went to Alla Spina for a couple quick drinks and finger food for my roommate's birthday on Monday (opening day). The beer was awesome. I don't remember the names of our beers as they were Italian and German but the food didn't blow me away.

Portions are small and a little pricey. To be fair, we didn't order any full entrees, just some carpaccio, fish, and vegetable plates along with some stuffed peppers and these cheese ball things. I would definitely come back here as a drink and snack spot and I'll check out their entrees next time.

I went to Alla Spina last night, had the the razor neck clams which were good, the baked oysters were phenominal, the prociutto bread plate was delicious, I'm not a big pot pie guy but pig pot pie was tasty, the mortadella hot dog was yum and reasonably priced... great prosecco, overall I think it's good value and I would definitely go back

oh and their pickles are mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Going to Vedge tonight (highly rated all vegan restaurant) with my gf (vegetarian), roomate and another poker friend (vegetarian). Honestly I can't remember the last time I went out to eat and didn't have meat so this will be interesting. Really looking forward to it.

Vedge was fantastic. Try everything on the menu. Absolute favorite things were the gold beets with avocado and tofu and the onion soup. I'm going back very soon.

Also the sticky toffee cake might be the best dessert I've had in Philadelphia.

went again yesterday because it was convenient before the flyers game

had the oysters again, still delicious
ordered the swordfish blt panini, was quite tasty but a little greasy
dad had the maple fried chicken, was yum, closer to wing sized portions but great flavor even though i'm not a big fan of fried chicken with heavy breading

Veal breast milanese hoagie at Alla Spina is good, been back for that twice now. I enjoy the beer there too but St. Stephen's is also another favorite beer spot around the corner and the atmosphere is much more laid back.

Anyone here rock climb? My roommate and I are starting to get into it by doing some gym climbing at Go Vertical and eventually we want to find some people to do outdoor rock climbing with once we get better.

been to alla spina twice now.

beer and cheese dip a must.
the milanese hoagie is out of control awesome
poutine is awesome
pretty much everything we've had was incredible (except the pig sticks, no idea wtf they were)
victory beer delicious
love the vibe

went there with 6 people and we got the pig head special for 4 to finish the meal. they weren't kidding about getting the entire head.

I checked out Xfinity Live last night. Place was really amazing. Reasonably priced craft beer on tap in the Victory Beer Garden and a really cool sports bar/lounge to watch games at. The western themed PBR bar was kinda small and disappointing, but overall the place was a great experience. Some outdoor tables as well for when the weather is nice.

Was never real big on McFaddens to begin with, but definitely wont be going there over XL in the future.

Also- tonight is the grand opening and theres gonna be a free third eye blind concert.

I don't climb, but some of neighbors do. The only place I really know of is along the Wissahickon (Valley Green trail) near where Ridge Ave and Lincoln Drive intersect near the Wissahickon train station. Not sure about difficulty, etc. but you might want to check it out if you're not already familiar with this area.

Yeah, it was this aspect that had me confused, but thanks for clarifying. That sounds great b/c I can walk over to Victory for what I want while friends are buying ML elsewhere

Green Room is one of the better dives around there too. Nice neighborhood, too bad parking is such a bitch or I'd live there.

bump for xfinity live. best place to watch sports in terms of atmosphere, ate at NBC sports and it was OK had the skinny turkey sandwich at victory and exceeded expectations while being pretty healthy

Is it just me or does Philadelphia have a serious dearth of 24 hour/late night food options? For a city of its size, there should be at least half a dozen solid options. And no, IHOP or the like doesn't count.

I grew up in Austin, TX and there were plenty of good options for food after a night out drinking or after a concert. Here, we have...South Philly Diner? That place is gross.

Once I get rich I'm giving back to Penn and University City by building a quality 24-Hour diner on campus instead of naming a building after myself.

Xfinity is great...looking forward to going when it isn't completely crowded, though.

Good point regarding lack of late night food options. My go to is the Taco Bell on City Line Ave.!

Nice. I've gone to that taco bell a few too many times after late nights at Chester or Parx.
